LG & Samsung @IFA 2023

LG Electronics will showcase energy-efficient home appliances under the theme of Net Zero House. Its new drum washing machine is about 40 percent more efficient than the highest energy efficiency grade.

The new dryer has the highest energy efficiency level among products available on the market, with an energy efficiency rating of A+++. The new dryer also incorporates the next-generation, eco-friendly refrigerant R290 with a global warming potential (GWP) of 3.

The company will also unveil a new refrigerator that is about 20 percent more efficient than the highest energy grade.

Samsung Electronics will unveil features such as the AI Saving Mode, which allows users to reduce energy consumption through its own app, SmartThings, while showcasing highly efficient eco-friendly appliances.

Samsung Electronics will also introduce the Samsung Food platform at the event, which creates personalized diets using AI technologies, essentially serving as an app-based nutritionist.

Users can input preferences or desired nutrients, and the platform will provide tailored recipes. The service will launch on Thursday in 8 languages across 104 countries.

Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics will also present features that focus on hyper-connectivity. The companies have been concentrating on connecting all household appliances to enhance the user experience.

They will introduce an interconnection service, which allows a user of an LG Electronics TV to be able to turn the TV on or off using Samsung’s SmartThings app. A user of a Samsung air conditioner will be able to control the temperature with LG’s ThinQ app.

The interconnection service will initially apply to nine types of appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners. The two companies plan to expand the smart home ecosystem this year in eight countries, including Korea and the U.S.

Bosch @IFA2023

The healthy refrigerator
Bosch raises the standard for new refrigerators – upwards and outwards. One of the producer’s visions is to reduce food waste.
Bosch took us into the laboratory and the dreams of the white goods of the future.
The German manufacturer Bosch raises the standard for refrigerators. An XL refrigerator must in future be 194 centimeters high and 77 centimeters wide. It creates, depending on the consumer’s choice of model, between 21 and 45% more “useful content” in the fridge.
Bosch states that more than 50% of consumers today declare themselves “very interested in healthy nutrition and healthy foods”. Bosch has translated this statement into a “healthy refrigerator”, where bio-based plastics and simpler, lighter components are already used in the production phase, saving 33% of materials already in production.

In addition, the XL fridge is a weapon in the fight against food waste: a less crowded fridge automatically means more order, more overview and less food waste.

Bosch presented figures showing that 22% of consumers today already have connected, “smart” appliances. Bosch sees connectivity and artificial intelligence as the very key to sustainability:

“Take auto-dispensing detergent as an example. Auto-dos saves 38% of detergent compared to when people dose themselves. Add to that that a mini-wash saves approx. 50% water compared to a normal wash. It is precisely the smart products and the human consideration that can lead us to the sustainable use of white goods”, said de.t

34% of German consumers emphasize that white goods are smart when making new purchases. More than 40% are willing to pay more for smart devices.

Bosch develops most of its new products in Germany, which is naturally emphasized in an IFA context, where the large audience is German. But the manufacturer also had concrete news from the local development laboratories: from 2024 all Bosch washing machines are in energy class A.

Not only Bosch delivers here. I wonder if we are moving towards a new rescaling of the pan-European energy labels

Samsung to unveil a food integration platform at IFA 2023

IFA 2023 event, which is Europe’s largest consumer electronics exhibition, Samsung is all set to unveil a new food integration platform called Samsung Food. Samsung Food will incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) to provide a personalized food experience to Samsung home appliance users. IFA 2023 will be held in Berlin, on September 1.

Samsung Food will provide personalized functions that will help in catering to a user’s dietary life, including recipe research, storage, meal planning, preparation of food, cooking, and content sharing, all via a single platform. Users will be able to link Samsung Food to their kitchen appliances, such as the Family Hub Refrigerator and the BESPOKE AI Oven.Samsung Food is designed in such a way that it will help make meal preparation easier and also give access to around 160,00 recipes. Moreover, it will use AI to detect the ingredients available in your fridge and show personalized food recommendations. Interesting recipes can be saved in the ‘My Recipes’ section. Samsung Food app will also help with your cooking based on your skill level. For example, it will give you cooking instructions based on cooking difficulty, cooking time, and your free time availability. The platform will also connect customized recipes with kitchen appliances. So, the cooking values of a customized recipe will be shared with the Bespoke Oven so that the user does not have to set the cooking temperature and other values separately.

Samsung Food is available on mobile and on the Family Hub of Bespoke Refrigerators. However, do note that the personalized recipe function in the Family Hub will be updated within the year. The company also plans to link Samsung Food and Samsung Health within this year so that users can manage meals based on their health preferences.

LG Electronics (LG) is introducing the latest addition to its second-generation LG SIGNATURE lineup, the new Washer-Dryer with Heat Pump, at IFA 2023. Leveraging LG’s advanced heat pump technology, the new, space-efficient appliance delivers an effective washing and drying performance, gentle clothing care and an unparalleled one-stop laundry experience.

The stylish 27-inch Washer-Dryer with Heat Pump features LG SIGNATURE’s seamless, elegant design, and boasts ample room for getting clothes clean and dry with a 25-kg washing capacity, and 13-kg for drying. A genuine space-saver with a large capacity, LG’s washer-dryer also integrates the innovative TWINWash™ feature, a small washer located below the main drum that’s ideal for cleaning delicates or daily workout gear. The ability to wash and dry makes the company’s new all-in-one model especially suitable for homes and apartments where space is at a premium, and responds to the call from many consumers for a laundry solution that saves both time and space.

A one-stop laundry solution, the LG SIGNATURE Washer-Dryer streamlines the user experience, providing intuitive ‘single touch’ control. Its AI-powered laundry and drying course detects fabric types and load size, as well as the presence of residual moisture, automatically applying the optimal settings for the best washing and drying results. This level of automation means users can spend less time doing the laundry and more time doing the things they love.

LG’s innovative, new appliance employs the company’s own inverter heat pump drying module to significantly reduce drying times and maximize energy efficiency. And thanks to 6 Motion™ AI Direct Drive technology, the washer-dryer also intelligently optimizes drying performance and minimizes fabric damage for each and every load.

The company’s new combination washer and dryer further enhances ease of use with a range of thoughtfully applied smart features. The appliance’s smart touch door and voice recognition capabilities, for example, allow users to turn on the machine and open its door with practically no effort at all. They can also use voice commands to set the washing or drying cycle, while the washing machine itself can verbally update users on the status of their laundry.
