Haier Smart Home has released its Q1 2021 financial results showing operating revenue of €7 billion and an increase of 27% year-on-year. Overseas revenue increased by 24.6% yoy, with revenue growth of over 40% in high-end products. The Q1 2021 report follows the recent publication of the 2020 Annual Report confirming the profitable growth of its overseas business. In 2020 the company registered a global turnover of approximately over €26.5 billion, with smart appliances sales increased by 29% globally. Haier Europe announces that construction of the first Haier refrigeration production facility in the EU is proceeding according to schedule, with production expected to start in late Spring 2021.
This production facility will manufacture best-in-class refrigerators, both built-in and freestanding for Haier Europe’s 3 brands – Candy, Hoover and Haier – with a focus on connectivity and preservation.
This large investment project exceeds EUR 70 million. The factory will have 63,000 square meters floor space on a total land of 130.000 square meters, located in the Allianso Industrial Park at Aricestii Rahtivani, near Ploiesti, 70km away from Bucharest.
The new factory will employ nearly 800 people – at full capacity – for an expected production of 600,000 units after 2022. The factory design, which is based on modular approach, will allow an expansion up to 1 million units at full capacity.

This project will make Romania a strategic hub for Haier Europe and will play a key role in its strategy to become one of the top 3 leaders in the industry by 2023. The Romanian plant will be a world-class facility featuring premium production processes brought by Haier’s advanced R&D, manufacturing capabilities and know-how. Haier Tech Romania, a subsidiary of the China-based global appliance manufacturer Haier Group, announced that works on the first Haier refrigerator production facility in Europe advance according to schedule, and the factory will begin operations at the end of spring 2021.

Despite the global downtrend due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Haier has continued to achieve growth in revenue across the global market. Overall, Haier’s overseas revenue reached 47 billion yuan (US$ 7.07 billion) in the first half of 2020, a 0.6 percent year-on-year increase and makes up 49 percent of the company’s total revenue.
In Europe, Haier’s revenue reached 6.7 billion yuan (US$ 997 million), Germany and Italy sales grew by 61 percent and 52 percent respectively, and the sales volume of refrigeration appliances ranked top five in France, Great Britain, Italy and Russia. In Asia, Haier Smart Home respectively achieved 16.3% revenue increase to 18 billion yuan (US$ 2.67 billion) and 7% increase in Southeast Asian market with 21 billion yuan (US$ 3.12 billion).
