BSH will be the first manufacturer in the world to bring a Matter-compatible home appliance to the market in early 2025. At the gigantic BSH stand at IFA 2024 a built-in XXL fridge-freezer combination was presented, which will be distributed under both the Bosch and Siemens brands.
The new Matter connection standard will enable simple and fast networking in the future not only between the group’s appliances but with all models that have been or will be put on the market by manufacturers adhering to this standard (almost all leaders) with great advantages for everyday use. Matter-compatible devices can be controlled via various apps and technologies, actively or automatically and self-controlled in the background. BSH is therefore actively positioning itself for the smart home of the future.Home Connect has been a leader in IoT solutions for the kitchen and home for a decade. At IFA, BSH is celebrating this anniversary with new functions that promote sustainability and ease of use. One of these functions is Smart Start, which automates the operation of household appliances based on the highest share of renewable energy in the power grid or electricity prices. For consumers who do not yet use dynamic electricity tariffs, BSH has partnered with the green electricity supplier Tibber to offer discounted tariffs and thus promote the use of renewable energies.
Additionally, consumption statistics provide consumers with an overview of their water and electricity consumption. The Consumption Forecast feature shows the expected energy and water consumption based on the selected program, so consumers can make informed decisions about their energy consumption. The Care Dashboard helps them monitor the condition of their devices, identify maintenance needs early and address them directly to ensure optimal.

Bosch weighs offer for appliance maker Whirlpool,
German engineering group Robert Bosch is weighing a bid for US appliances manufacturer Whirlpool, (WHR) according to three people familiar with the matter, a move that would boost its position in the household appliances market.
Bosch has been talking to potential advisers about the possibility of making an offer for Whirlpool, which has a market capitalisation of about $4.8 billion, one of the sources said.Bosch weighs offer for appliance maker Whirlpool, potential acquisition could significantly enhance Bosch’s position in the household appliance market, especially as competition with Asian rivals intensifies12. Whirlpool, founded in 1911, produces a wide range of home appliances, including refrigerators, microwaves, washing machines, dryers, and small kitchen appliances. The company has undergone restructuring, folding its European business into a new company controlled by Turkish rival Arcelik and divesting its Middle Eastern and African operations.
While it remains uncertain whether Bosch will make an official offer, the move aligns with Bosch’s strategy to expand its unit that manufactures large home appliances. If successful, the acquisition could reshape the landscape of the industry and potentially impact Benton Harbor, where Whirlpool’s headquarters are located.
Alternative resources: the H2 hob by Bosch

Bosch is forging ahead on the path to environmental sustainability and is actively participating in the “H100 Fife” initiative, a green hydrogen endeavor unfolding in Scotland under the leadership of SGN, the gas distribution network. Specifically, approximately 300 households along the eastern Scottish coastline, particularly in the communities of Buckhaven and Denbeath, will transition to using green hydrogen for their heating and culinary needs. This eco-friendly energy is sourced from the sea’s winds and harnessed through electrolysis. Bosch is set to contribute by supplying hydrogen-powered cooking appliances. A key advantage of this green hydrogen is its clean combustion process, which emits neither carbon monoxide nor CO2. Bosch unveiled this innovative technology at the Eurocucina 2024 event in Milan. The company articulates that this pilot project is a testament to their dedication to eco-friendly alternatives that minimize environmental impact, aiming to inspire more such initiatives and steer us towards a net-zero future.

Bosch series 8 heat pump dryer
Bosch have launched its new Series 8 heat pump dryers, which reach the class A+++ -10% ensuring a high level of energy efficiency. The heat pump technology significantly reduces the environmental impact thanks also to the use of R290 propane gas. The self-cleaning condenser uses the condensation water produced during the drying in order to remove the lint that settles on it in each cycle and which, over time, tends to reduce the efficiency: this process is carried out for up to 4 times for each drying cycle, keeping the condenser constantly clean. The new models are equipped with advanced functions such as Iron Assist (a steam treatment that softens the garments, reduces the creases and refreshes clothes by removing the odors), Hygiene Plus (against germs, bacteria, mites and common allergens) and the option for reduced loads. Furthermore, with the Sheets program an alternating bidirectional rotation is carried out to avoid the tangling of the items: in this way large and small items can be dried together. The dryers can be connected to the Home Connect app which offers additional programs and constant software updates. Besides, with Smart Dry – thanks to the wireless technology and the Home Connect app – the washing machine sends the information of the last wash cycle to the dryer, such as the load quantity and the residual humidity: the dryer then automatically selects the most suitable drying program for the washed laundry
BSH group will implement Matter in smart kitchen appliances from 2024
At the beginning of 2024, the BSH group, producer of well-known household brands such as Bosch, Siemens, Gaggenau and Neff, will switch to using Matter technology, the latest technology in smart home connectivity. The refrigerators are the first to go, specifically the spacious XXL built-in fridge-freezer combinations. In Matter 1.2, a large number of household appliances have been added, including refrigerators, dishwashers and washing machines.
The BSH group, which includes heavyweights such as Bosch and Siemens, is at the forefront of this innovation as some of their appliances are already connected via the cloud and can be controlled remotely with Home Connect.
Matter 1.2 promises a seamless connection between various home appliances, and BSH plans to adopt this standard in their refrigerators that will allow users to control the temperature remotely. While details on which current models will support Matter have not yet been announced, it is likely that only more recent devices will be compatible.
Furthermore, in 2024, the Bosch Smart Home controller will function as a Matter bridge, which will play a crucial role in the new ecosystem of connected devices. This will herald a gradual transition to a fully Matter-compatible smart home system, although it is still unclear when other appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers will follow.
Matter does not yet support everything; for example, there is no support for cameras yet. Nevertheless, this update marks an important step forward in the world of smart kitchen appliance
Bosch @IFA2023
The healthy refrigerator
Bosch raises the standard for new refrigerators – upwards and outwards. One of the producer’s visions is to reduce food waste.
Bosch took us into the laboratory and the dreams of the white goods of the future.
The German manufacturer Bosch raises the standard for refrigerators. An XL refrigerator must in future be 194 centimeters high and 77 centimeters wide. It creates, depending on the consumer’s choice of model, between 21 and 45% more “useful content” in the fridge.
Bosch states that more than 50% of consumers today declare themselves “very interested in healthy nutrition and healthy foods”. Bosch has translated this statement into a “healthy refrigerator”, where bio-based plastics and simpler, lighter components are already used in the production phase, saving 33% of materials already in production.
In addition, the XL fridge is a weapon in the fight against food waste: a less crowded fridge automatically means more order, more overview and less food waste.
Bosch presented figures showing that 22% of consumers today already have connected, “smart” appliances. Bosch sees connectivity and artificial intelligence as the very key to sustainability:
“Take auto-dispensing detergent as an example. Auto-dos saves 38% of detergent compared to when people dose themselves. Add to that that a mini-wash saves approx. 50% water compared to a normal wash. It is precisely the smart products and the human consideration that can lead us to the sustainable use of white goods”, said de.t
34% of German consumers emphasize that white goods are smart when making new purchases. More than 40% are willing to pay more for smart devices.
Bosch develops most of its new products in Germany, which is naturally emphasized in an IFA context, where the large audience is German. But the manufacturer also had concrete news from the local development laboratories: from 2024 all Bosch washing machines are in energy class A.
Not only Bosch delivers here. I wonder if we are moving towards a new rescaling of the pan-European energy labels

Bosch factory Russia
Bosch’s two idle manufacturing sites near St. Petersburg are set to be purchased by Chinese household appliances manufacturer Hisense, German multinational previously said that Ukraine-related sanctions had either interrupted most of its business in Russia, or brought it to a standstill for many months.
Hisense has already purchased some Russian assets belonging to Bosch, one of the sources told the media.
Bosch reportedly announced an internal tender earlier this year, with Hisense and another Chinese appliance maker, Midea, as well as an unnamed Turkish investor, emerging as potential bidders. The German corporation used to produce refrigerators and washing machines at its two production sites in the suburbs of St. Petersburg. Bosch’s Russian division received most of its components from EU countries.
