Electrolux Group is showcasing at IFA 2023, for the first time, its EcoLine. It is a dedicated selection created to help consumers reduce their climate impact while providing high-quality performance. The new line includes all the main product categories ensuring it meets the appliances needs of the entire home. Within laundry, EcoLine shows washers which have an energy rating better than the best A rating on the market and with resource saving features such as AutoDose, which saves detergent, and UltraWash which cleans efficiently at 30ºC and saves 30% energy. EcoLine tumble dryers with heat pump technology can save up to 68% more energy versus a traditional tumble dryer. Besides, the ovens retain minerals and vitamins while using up to 20% less energy when cooking with steam, and a steam cleaning function saves up to 95% energy versus pyro cleaning. Other appliances included in the EcoLine are hobs, hoods, dishwashers, free-standing cookers and air purifiers. Finally, the company proposes also the AEG SaphirMatt induction hob with scratch-resistant glass. The SaphirMatt ceramic glass is able to withstand everyday use and abrasions without being scratched.

Siemens @IFA 2023
Siemens asked the question as clearly as possible: What does artificial intelligence mean for us? What does AI mean, for example? in the kitchen and in the rest of the home?
The German manufacturer, in its “Garden of Intelligence” at the IFA fair, itself provided a number of rather good answers.
Artificial intelligence is, for example, often something we overlook. Because we as consumers do not update that the product has become intelligent. We don’t need to talk to an “Alexa” or another robot until something is actually “artificially intelligent” to us.
“The artificial angel is bigger than the individual product. Bigger than the oven or coffee machine. Bigger than the washing machine talking to the dryer”.
“Artificial intelligence is about saying ‘hello’ – and that all your white goods and household appliances then listen and learn. Let’s not talk so much about the individual appliances. Let’s say hello to them and see what they can do”, said Siemens’ German product manager.
Siemens then gave simple and clear examples of precisely the artificial intelligence built into their products. For example in the dishwasher’s program selection, where the machine quickly discovers that the consumer only normally uses two or three programmes. Therefore, the machine, step by step, takes this into account, as there is of course the possibility behind it that the consumer can choose far more advanced programs for. e.g. glass washer or other.
The refrigerator is also aware that today’s consumer makes fewer and larger purchases. Therefore, the refrigerators have systems built in that keep food fresh longer. There is simply more space, more light and more temperature zones.
“The white goods have, almost without us realizing it, become intelligent problem solvers”. it sounded from Siemens.
The refrigerators are also getting bigger. Siemens presented, like its colleagues from Bosch, new XL refrigerators, which measure 194 centimeters in height and 77 centimeters in width as standard. Up to 45% more “utility value” or storage space in the same product.
Finally, Siemens was also involved in the trend for products to clean themselves and partially repair themselves. The Eco900 coffee machine is able to “clean itself”. The washing machine itself tells the consumer about the fault it has found or is about to find, e.g. a clogged filter. After this, the consumer can solve the problem himself or with simple help from a distance – without expensive service visits.
The role of the appliance service man is changing.
Last, but perhaps not least, Siemens withdrew the guarantee to supply key spare parts by five years. Siemens now guarantees a 15-year supply of critical spare parts against a previous ten-year guarantee. To that extent, sustainability has become a competitive parameter

Haier Europealso announces an acceleration of investments in Candy, both in production tools and in the release of new products. Concerning sustainable development, Yannick Fierling declares: “we have a clear roadmap in reducing our CO2 emissions (-20%) since 2021”

Miele @IFA2023
86 percent of Western European consumers declare that sustainability matters a lot to their choice of product. Even so, only 11% of consumers actually choose to use the eco program. Most people think that choosing energy label A is the only thing they need to do to be sustainable…
That’s how sharp it sounded from Marcus Miele, representative of one of Miele’s two founding families, when German Miele held a press conference on 30 August 2023 at the IFA fair in Berlin.
There is no doubt that sustainability is “the nerve of our time”. And there is also no doubt that Miele is trying to give consumers answers to the demands of sustainability at every turn.
This applies in production, where already in 2021 Miele switched to using 100% green energy in the manufacture of products at all factories.
And this applies in the relationship with the consumer, where Miele, like other major manufacturers, links the digital with the sustainable more strongly than ever.
The linking of artificial intelligence with sustainability takes place in a series of new apps, where the consumer can get a “consumption overview” and can set the appliances to run when it makes the most sense in relation to the electricity price. The new apps are designed so that there is also “fun” and competition involved, probably inspired by the apps where athletes today can compete virtually in running, cycling, golf etc.
New at Miele is “AI-diagnosis”, where artificial intelligence can make repairs a new, better and cheaper experience. The consumer can troubleshoot his washing machine, possibly with the assistance of a technician who follows the distance. The consumer can also be notified of upcoming errors. The new AI technology can predict e.g. a clogged filter or a need for descaling.
Miele has taken several years of oven technology development into an app – Meal Sync, so that the artificial intelligence itself analyzes the food that is put in the oven and calculates the cooking and roasting times.
“Stress-free cooking”, as it was called. The technology can do a lot: “However, you still have to chop the vegetables yourself”, as it dryly sounded in a side note from Miele director Axel Kniel.
All in all, the product news was lined up at Miele’s press conference. A microplastic filter for the washing machine was presented, a Laundry Dry Cabinet for the wrinkled clothes was presented.
As well as a new, further developed version of Miele’s cordless vacuum cleaner, and convenient new cordless Duoflex HX1 stick vacuum cleaner, was presented by Reinhard Zinkann. With its SpeedLock system*, patents pending, and a matching wall bracket, the Duoflex HX1 is astonishingly simple to operate. A further benefit is the modern design concept with six attractive colour versions. ‘This vacuum cleaner is far too attractive to be stowed away in a utility room’, is Zinkann’s verdict. The Duoflex HX1 has proven motor technology from Miele’s Euskirchen plant to thank for its suction
Further improvements on the dishwashing front
Previously, Zinkann had drawn attention to the Miele dishwasher as a ‘success story of the special kind’, with over 940,000 units sold in a single year, five wins in a row with Germany’s consumer watchdog Stiftung Warentest, the Green Product Award 2023 – and with almost all models from the current G 7000 series sporting the top ‘A’ energy efficiency class. ‘For this IFA, we have further perfected our dishwashers’, Zinkann announced. By way of an example, he cited additional programmes for thorough, energy-efficient and gentle cleaning in equal measure. In addition to this, the dishwasher baskets have undergone further development to securely accommodate reusable bottles and drinking straws for thorough cleaning. At the end of the day, it is those small things and details which often make a difference – for greater sustainability in everyday life.

The interconnection service will initially apply to nine types of appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners. The two companies plan to expand the smart home ecosystem this year in eight countries, including Korea and the U.S.
Bosch @IFA2023
The healthy refrigerator
Bosch raises the standard for new refrigerators – upwards and outwards. One of the producer’s visions is to reduce food waste.
Bosch took us into the laboratory and the dreams of the white goods of the future.
The German manufacturer Bosch raises the standard for refrigerators. An XL refrigerator must in future be 194 centimeters high and 77 centimeters wide. It creates, depending on the consumer’s choice of model, between 21 and 45% more “useful content” in the fridge.
Bosch states that more than 50% of consumers today declare themselves “very interested in healthy nutrition and healthy foods”. Bosch has translated this statement into a “healthy refrigerator”, where bio-based plastics and simpler, lighter components are already used in the production phase, saving 33% of materials already in production.
In addition, the XL fridge is a weapon in the fight against food waste: a less crowded fridge automatically means more order, more overview and less food waste.
Bosch presented figures showing that 22% of consumers today already have connected, “smart” appliances. Bosch sees connectivity and artificial intelligence as the very key to sustainability:
“Take auto-dispensing detergent as an example. Auto-dos saves 38% of detergent compared to when people dose themselves. Add to that that a mini-wash saves approx. 50% water compared to a normal wash. It is precisely the smart products and the human consideration that can lead us to the sustainable use of white goods”, said de.t
34% of German consumers emphasize that white goods are smart when making new purchases. More than 40% are willing to pay more for smart devices.
Bosch develops most of its new products in Germany, which is naturally emphasized in an IFA context, where the large audience is German. But the manufacturer also had concrete news from the local development laboratories: from 2024 all Bosch washing machines are in energy class A.
Not only Bosch delivers here. I wonder if we are moving towards a new rescaling of the pan-European energy labels

Leveraging LG’s advanced heat pump technology, the new, space-efficient appliance delivers an effective washing and drying performance, gentle clothing care and an unparalleled one-stop laundry experience.
The stylish 27-inch Washer-Dryer with Heat Pump features LG SIGNATURE’s seamless, elegant design, and boasts ample room for getting clothes clean and dry with a 25-kg washing capacity, and 13-kg for drying. A genuine space-saver with a large capacity, LG’s washer-dryer also integrates the innovative TWINWash™ feature, a small washer located below the main drum that’s ideal for cleaning delicates or daily workout gear. The ability to wash and dry makes the company’s new all-in-one model especially suitable for homes and apartments where space is at a premium, and responds to the call from many consumers for a laundry solution that saves both time and space.
A one-stop laundry solution, the LG SIGNATURE Washer-Dryer streamlines the user experience, providing intuitive ‘single touch’ control. Its AI-powered laundry and drying course detects fabric types and load size, as well as the presence of residual moisture, automatically applying the optimal settings for the best washing and drying results. Conveniently, the drying process begins as soon as the washing cycle has concluded, reducing operation time. This level of automation means users can spend less time doing the laundry and more time doing the things they love.
LG’s innovative, new appliance employs the company’s own inverter heat pump drying module to significantly reduce drying times and maximize energy efficiency. And thanks to 6 Motion™ AI Direct Drive technology, the washer-dryer also intelligently optimizes drying performance and minimizes fabric damage for each and every load.
The company’s new combination washer and dryer further enhances ease of use with a range of thoughtfully applied smart features. The appliance’s smart touch door and voice recognition capabilities, for example, allow users to turn on the machine and open its door with practically no effort at all. They can also use voice commands to set the washing or drying cycle, while the washing machine itself can verbally update users on the status of their laundry. Moreover, the LG SIGNATURE Washer-Dryer’s bright, seven-inch LCD display provides easy control of features and settings, and gives users access to any new cycles they’ve downloaded via the ThinQ app.
“The LG SIGNATURE Washer-Dryer with Heat Pump is an advanced, all-in-one package offering space efficiency and time-saving automation together with a top-notch performance,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “Aligned with LG SIGNATURE’s new brand theme, ‘Live beyond.’, which is all about presenting solutions that help consumers live their ideal life, we will continue to introduce innovations that go beyond expectations and make everyday life more convenient.”
LG will be showcasing its latest home appliances, including the new second-generation LG SIGNATURE Washer-Dryer with Heat Pump, at its exhibition booth (Hall 18, Messe Berlin) at IFA 2023 in Berlin, Germany, from September 1-5.
