Electrolux receives EIB loan to increase energy efficiency of appliances

Are you looking to design the most sustainable kitchen possible? Are more energy-efficient appliances at the top of your specification list?

In the face of climate change, continued innovation in this area is of increasing importance for most.

To enable this, Electrolux has secured additional finance to boost research and the development of more energy-efficient home appliances, with a €250 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB).We have ambitious targets to become climate neutral and we appreciate the ongoing support from the EIB to help us achieve this. From how we source our materials, to coming up with innovations that allow both ourselves as a business and anyone who buys our products to have as low an impact on the planet as possible is central to us,” says Jonas Samuelson, CEO of Electrolux.

85% of total CO2 emissions in the life cycle of white goods are produced during the use of the products, highlighting the need for sustainability by supporting the development of products with improved environmental performance, such as appliances with reduced water and energy consumption. Electrolux will also study solutions to minimize plastic waste from its products and promote their recycling.

Whirlpool USA top loader expansion

Whirlpool brand today announced the expansion of its Top Load Washer with 2 in 1 Removable Agitator to major retailers nationwide, as well as a new white finish on the machine. The industry-first washer launched earlier this year exclusively at Lowe’s and in a Chrome Shadow finish. Based on popular consumer response to the first-of-its-kind washing machine, Whirlpool brand is bringing consumers more ways to shop, more colors for any style laundry room and new washers that offer the brand’s latest innovations.

“It has been humbling to see the positive reaction from our consumers and from trusted award programs such as Good Housekeeping, Fast Company, Popular Science and TWICE ,” said Shawn Ashby, laundry brand manager, Whirlpool. “Just in time for the holidays, we want to continue making everyday chores easier for all families, and we know that starts with the option to purchase the machine that will best fit their space and lifestyle.”

In addition to the Top Load Washer with 2 in 1 Removable Agitator that became available in April 2021, Whirlpool brand now offers four new laundry machines with innovative touches for an easy laundry routine:

Whirlpool® Top Load Washer with 2 in 1 Removable Agitator: Customize loads the way you want. Simply remove the agitator to fit bulky items, pre-wash clothes with a built-in water Faucet and use the Deep Water Wash Option to add more water.
Whirlpool® Top Load Electric Moisture Sensing Dryer with Steam: Moisture Sensing helps prevent overdrying by stopping the load at just the right time. Easily keep loads on your schedule with the Wrinkle Shield™ Option that continues tumbling for 2.5 hours after the cycle ends. For extra drying time, adjust the Timed Dry cycle based on your needs.
Whirlpool® Top Load Washer with Pretreat Station: The Pretreat Station allows you to soak, scrub and wash all in one spot with a built-in faucet and pretreat brush for quick, easy access to tools that help you get your pretreat tasks done at once.
Whirlpool® Top Load Electric Dryer with Intuitive Controls: Create customized cycles on your large-capacity electric dryer in a few touches for the right fabric care. A dryer sanitize cycle uses higher temperatures to sanitize items like towels, while the Wrinkle Shield™ option helps keep wrinkles from setting into clean clothes. And to save energy, the EcoBoost™ option uses less heat while providing the same great drying performance1.

Samsung Reshuffle

Samsung said on Tuesday it will merge its mobile and consumer electronics divisions and named new co-CEOs in its biggest reshuffle since 2017, to simplify its structure and focus on growing its logic chip business. The sweeping move is the latest sign of centralised change at the world’s largest memory chip and smartphone maker, after Vice Chairman Jay Y Lee was paroled in August from a bribery conviction.

The head of visual display business, Han Jong-hee, was promoted to vice chairman and co-CEO, and will lead the newly merged division spanning mobile and consumer electronics as well as continuing to lead the TV business. Han has risen through the ranks in Samsung’s visual display business, without experience in mobile. Analysts said it was unclear what kind of changes or divisions of labour are expected under Han.

Dyson’s split with major supplier

Dyson is reportedly cutting ties with ATA IMS, one of Malaysia’s top providers of electronics manufacturing services, which supplies the UK firm with spare parts for vacuum cleaners and air purifiers, over labor-abuse allegations.

The step came after several current and former employees along with an ATA former executive alleged that the company used to hire mostly migrants who were forced to work up to 15 hours a day and to skip rest days to keep up with demand. Moreover, ATA reportedly coached its staff to hide real working and living conditions from Dyson and labour inspectors.
