Bosch awarded for its smart home

Bosch was named “Connected Home Company of the Year” in the 6th annual IoT Breakthrough Awards program conducted by IoT Breakthrough, a market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies and products in the global Internet-of-Things (IoT) market today. The German brand offers a range of home appliances across its product categories to be remotely controlled and monitored with a single app. Many of these innovations are integrated with the Home Connect smart platform, allowing consumers to remotely monitor and control their major appliance from a smart device.

«While we seek to bring excitement into the home, Bosch has a firm belief that appliances and technology should first offer true value in simplifying everyday life, rather than innovating something just for the sake of innovation – said Bosch Senior Brand Manager, Diana Lunzer-. We believe that connectivity should begin with a superior appliance, automating the mundane while still allowing users to enjoy kitchen and household activities without the gimmicks.»

The Home Connect app works with Bosch ovens, cooktops, range hoods, refrigerators, dishwashers, coffee machines, and laundry pairs. The one-stop app allows users to intelligently manage and organize household tasks while controlling functionality, receiving alerts, and automating certain processes with each appliance.

Electrolux has warned of a steep drop in demand for its home appliances

Sweden’s Electrolux on Monday announced plans to cut costs and warned its profit would drop as high inflation and low consumer confidence squeezed demand for its home appliances, while large investments in North America had yet to pay off.

Demand for appliances in Europe and the United States decreased at a significantly accelerated pace in the third quarter, with high retailer inventories and supply chain imbalances increasing costs and inefficiencies, Electrolux said.

Third quarter earnings for the group are expected to decline significantly compared to the second quarter 2022 also excluding the one-time cost to exit the Russia market,” the group said in a statement.

Coway breathes fresh air into IFA 2022 with its latest range of ‘Noble’ purifiers

Conall Lee, Senior Vice President, Product Strategy and Global Business, talked about the company’s latest innovations and plans for the European market in an interview with the IFA International.
Can you tell us a little about your latest water and air purifiers?
Coway is showcasing a total of 23 home health appliances, including new products with improvements in performance, design, and ease-of-use aimed at targeting our European market. The focus are our premium appliances, ‘Noble Collection’, the ‘Icon Water Purifier Series’ equipped with AI function, and the all-new air purifier ‘Art Columbia’. We will also introduce new additions for Airmega, our air purifier lineup, which will be featured to launch in Europe in Q2 2022. We are especially excited for our ‘Noble Collection’, which foster flawless hygiene and a self-maintenance function meant to improve the quality of life for our European consumers.

What are the health and wellness benefits of using these?
According to EFA(European Federation of Allergy and Airways Diseases Patients’ associations), Europeans spend approximately 90% of their time indoors. However, it has been discovered that indoor air can be 70% more polluted than outdoor air. Moreover, ceaseless pollutants such as dust, pollen, and pet allergens anywhere have recently threatened the minimal standard of European health criteria. I reckon Coway’s HyperCaptive™ air filtration system is a great solution to protect from those harmful contaminants.

What makes Coway’s products stand out compared to the competition?
Coway has tirelessly refined its expertise in the home appliance industry-since our founding back in 1989. We leverage our expertise in all facets of our business, such as research and development of products, production, quality assurance testing, quality management and distribution, to preemptively discern consumer needs and potential issues to address them promptly. How will the market for these evolve over the next few years?
Nowadays, consumers have a growing interest in air quality since they have begun spending more time at home thanks to the covid-pandemic. Most Europeans suffer from indoor air pollution, such as carpet dust, pet dander, and mold. In addition, CO2 (Carbon dioxide) emissions due to wildfires caused by Climate change, allergies and asthma caused by pollen and VOCs threaten public health. For those reasons, I anticipate European consumers will have a growing concern for “Clean air” as demand for air purifiers continues to grow.

How important are events like IFA for the industry?
It has been difficult to express the differentiations in our products in only virtual spaces. However, with the return of IFA events, we can now return to conversing with our potential customers to ascertain their evolving needs and new opinions.

Equipped with the TrueSteam technology, LG’s solution offers innovative, customized shoe management, collection and storage to enable new daily lifestyles. “As the culture of collecting expensive designer, luxury and limited-edition sneakers grows among the MZ generation – Millennials and Gen Z – LG’s internal research found that these ‘sneakerheads’ would benefit greatly from a solution that not only made their cherished shoes stand out more, but also provided them with the optimal care”, the company comments. LG Styler ShoeCase with transparent panels is a space-friendly solution for shoe storage and showcasing shoes. “In addition to creating the ideal environment for storing shoes by protecting against humidity and fabric-discoloring UV light – LG explains –, the Styler ShoeCase represents a great way for shoe enthusiasts to show-off their favorite pairs, offering interior features such as a 360-degree rotating turntable and a modular design that makes it possible to stack up to four cases on top of one another”. It also leverages the Zeo-Dry filter’s absorbent properties of zeolite to soak up moisture and help remove smells from footwear. Moreover, LG Styler ShoeCare optimizes the management of various shoe types, including leather, suede and sports footwear, with its 10 different courses. Depending on the type and fabric of the shoe, it controls the use of TrueSteam to refresh the shoe. The product can refresh up to four pairs of shoes in only 37 minutes (standard course) while operating at just 35 decibels. The solution also boasts the multiple Moving Nozzle, which dry out the insides of the shoes being refreshed and can be effortlessly adjusted according to the height of each pair. And, courtesy of the Dual Care System feature, users can clean two different types of shoes (with different fabric care needs) at the same time. Finally, users can access a range of services for the LG Styler ShoeCase and ShoeCare via the ThinQ app. The app lets users remotely control and monitor the Styler ShoeCase and ShoeCare: LG is also partnering with various lifestyle brands to bring new features and functions to its shoe care appliances, which will be made available via the ThinQ apps’ Upgrade Center

Samsung SmartThings AI Energy Mode

With energy prices on the rise, Samsung’s SmartThings platform leverages AI to help you cut down on your power use and save money. It’s one example of the company’s efforts to combat climate change.

“The more technology we add [to our homes], the more energy we use, and that’s not sustainable,” Samsung UK home appliances marketing director Tanya Weller said onstage at IFA. “We are determined to change things.”

With SmartThings, you can monitor and control the energy usage of your Samsung appliances from your phone. If your bill is too high, simply enable AI Energy Mode, which can reduce energy use through small changes, like slightly raising your refrigerator temperature or washing your clothes with cooler water After enabling AI Energy Mode, you can set a monthly target (maximum savings, net-zero home, or custom). Then, every morning, the AI will check whether you’re on track to meet your goal. If necessary, it will set your devices to run on Energy Saving mode for 24 hours.

Samsung says this feature can reduce the energy consumption of its refrigerators and washing machines by 30% and 70%, respectively.

Samsung’s connected home app to power 13 home appliance brands

Samsung Electronics’ integrated home appliances solution SmartThings is poised to be applied to Samsung plus 12 other major white goods brands by the first half of 2023, the company said Wednesday.

This comes as Samsung’s SmartThings is to make consumer electronics goods and mobile apps interoperable under the standard provided by the 13-member Home Connectivity Alliance, through an update of Samsung’s smart home solution next year.

The update will allow users of 13 HCA member brands — including Samsung, Arceik, LG Electronics, Electrolux Group, Haier, GE Appliances and Trane Technologies — to control more than 40 functions in 15 white goods categories designed for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and entertainment.

SmartThings will also be able to connect 300 brands of third-party devices more to build a smart home ecosystem, considering SmartThings system’s scalability, according to Samsung.

This will enable not only the interconnectivity of non-Samsung devices achieved at the level on par with that of Samsung, but also the control of electronics devices of different brands in the home through a single app.

Samsung added that a demonstration attended by HCA member companies will take place from Friday to Monday during the IFA 2022 in Berlin. The demonstration will feature Samsung’s products, including the Bespoke Cube Air Purifier, Bespoke Jet Bot AI Plus, Bespoke Refrigerator and Neo QLED TV.

Samsung Electronics has been a founding member since the HCA’s establishment in 2021, and its executive holds a leadership position of the alliance. Choi Yoon-ho, head of product planning at the IoT Biz Group at Samsung Electronics, is serving as the HCA President and Board Chair.

So far, Samsung Electronics has more than 235 million registered users of SmartThings globally across over 105 million connected devices manufactured by Samsung.

SmartThings is provided by the eponymous company, acquired by Samsung Electronics in 2014.
