Aham, the North American Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, issued a statement, , after submitting extensive comments in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s request for information on hazards associated with gas cooking products:
Safety will always be appliance manufacturers’ top priority – Aham President and CEO Kelly Mariotti said – and AHAM continues to support unbiased health and safety science that can be used to further improve product safety. As we detailed in our comments to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, current scientific evidence does not support claims that gas cooking creates a significant health hazard for Americans.»
The president also explained that all forms of cooking – gas and electric – emit pollutants that primarily come from the food being prepared rather than the heat source. Existing safety standards have for decades protected American consumers from any carbon monoxide hazards associated with gas products, and other standards are being developed to improve testing and increase consumer confidence in the safety of gas cooking products.
The new Sage coffee machine for more demanding customers will arrive on the market. What will it offer? In September, the new Sage coffee machine for more demanding customers will arrive on the market. What will it offer? Last Autumn, the brand expanded its range of coffee machines with The Barista Express Impress model (SES876BSS) with simplified tamping using a lever. After grinding the beans, the user presses a lever on the side of the coffee machine to perform tamping instead of using a traditional tamper. The more affordable model will receive a more advanced and more expensive sibling in September in the form of The Barista Touch Impress, which the company has already launched under the Breville brand, for example, in its home Australian market.
The machine comes with a very similar procedure for preparing coffee – i.e. tamping using a lever on the side of the coffee maker, then putting the filter on the head of the coffee maker and starting the extraction. So what makes them different? First of all, it is the replacement of the standard button control with a color touch screen that guides the user through the entire preparation, similar to the flagship The Oracle Touch, which has been sold for several years. In the case of The Barista Touch Impress, after selecting the type of drink, the display is divided into three sections – grinding/pounding, coffee extraction and milk frothing. The display helps the user with preparation by displaying the progress and indicating the completed steps.
However, the most important innovation in this model concerns the preparation of milk foam, where Sage is starting to focus more on milk alternatives. The coffee maker will offer automated foaming with a steam nozzle that has an integrated thermometer. We have already met this system with The Oracle Touch. Here, however, Sage goes a little further, as it now enables the setting of foaming according to the type of milk or milk alternative. You can choose from regular milk or almond, oat or soy milk. On the display, the coffee machine advises the user where to place the steam nozzle for a given type of milk and how much milk to use. This whole new system, called Auto MilQ, should gradually make its way to other new Sage models.

To make growing plants at home easy, LG introduced the LG tiiun in 2021 and the tiiun mini in 2022 – two innovations that allow users to enjoy a greener lifestyle, indoors. A smart gardening system with built-in LED lighting and automatic temperature control, LG tiiun is the ‘green thumb’ that can help anyone achieve gardening success.
LG tiiun was devised and developed by Sprout Company, the first company-in-company (CIC) established by LG. Forming independent in-house companies, such as Sprout, has helped LG to foster innovative new business ideas and enter new markets more efficiently. Case in point, the tiiun mini was developed and launched much faster than its predecessor Shin Sang-youn, head of Sprout Company, set three clear goals to grow the ‘pet plant’ market and the popularity of LG tiiun. “Our objectives were to turn customers previously uninterested in gardening into plant-lovers, influence customers with an interest in keeping plants to choose LG tiiun and create a fandom among LG tiiun owners,” he said.
The first step in achieving these goals was the creation of an online community for tiiun owners. Established in October 2021, the community now has more than 6,000 active users as of May 2023. “The community has been favorably received because, instead of being a one-sided platform where LG simply posts tiiun-related information and news, it gives members the opportunity to share their own personal stories and communicate with fellow plant- and tiiun-lovers,” explained Shin.As of now, LG tiiun is only available in South Korea. However, it is expected to reach more markets in the near future. “With global expansion in mind, we are currently experimenting with cultivating plants from various regions and environments,” said Shin.
Proud of tiiun’s success at home and looking forward to its bright global future, Shin stated, “In the same way that Scotch Tape and Styler have become generic terms, our hope is that, someday, tiiun will be the word that people use when they’re talking about indoor gardening appliances.
