Beko unveils an innovative suite of products and highlights it’s “positive domino effect” philosophy at IFA 2023

Beko has launched its next generation of sustainable living appliances – including bringing ‘EnergySpin Technology’ to all its washing machine ranges. Showcased in Berlin at the IFA 2023 press conference, the technology works by reinventing the traditional washing processes. The strong message conveyed during the IFA technology conference this year emphasized the impact of collective action towards a more sustainable society, where Beko’s Chief Marketing Officer Akın Garzanlı and Chief Commercial Officer Ragıp Balcıoğlu introduced the “positive domino effect” term which drives the company’s product strategy and technology innovation.Beko’s EnergySpin technology promotes improved, sustainable household habits. Rather than relying heavily on heat to dissolve detergent and eliminate stains, EnergySpin technology releases the detergent upfront. It harnesses the power of faster-than-usual drum speeds to elevate the pace at which the detergent dissolves. Called ‘EnergySpin,’ these unique drum movements eliminate the need for excessive heat generation during the wash, resulting in up to 35% less energy consumption than conventional machines while maintaining high-quality cleaning performance.

In an effort to facilitate greater efficiency, Beko’s EnergySpin solution removes choice from the equation and integrates energy saving into all washing modes, rather than using a single eco mode. This means energy efficiency is now delivered as standard across our most popular wash cycles in addition to “Eco Program”: “Cottons,” “Synthetics,” “Quick,” “Delicates,” “Mix,” “20°C program,” and “ColdWash” program.”“20°C program,” and “ColdWash” program.”

EnergySpin is due to roll out across most of the range, providing Beko’s A-rated energy-saving appliances available across Europe. The product will be on the market by the end of 2023.

Akın Garzanlı, Chief Marketing Officer at Beko comments: “Our latest technology for Beko is utilizing cutting-edge innovation. Beko’s EnergySpin is a gamechanger technology that stands out in the industry. Beko’s mission is to promote sustainable lives in every household and we aim to ensure that our products last for an extended period before requiring replacement. Through our technology, innovation, and business model, we strive to empower our customers to make meaningful and positive choices that ultimately result in a better state of mind.”

Ragıp Balcıoğlu, Chief Commercial Officer at Beko, comments: “The cost-of-living crisis is impacting lives worldwide and forcing people to alter their spending habits. As we believe that listening to our stakeholders during these challenging times is more crucial than ever, we surveyed our European retailers and their feedback validated that the demand for energy-efficient and affordable products will continue into 2024. As the top-selling major home appliance brand in Europe, we aim to provide advanced technology combining the latest innovations, quality, and harmonious designs. Our goal is to empower consumers to live consciously and sustainably while getting the most value for their investment. We will keep our contributions to make sustainability the topmost priority in our industry, and we will work together with our stakeholders to create a positive domino effect.”bring the ethos of the positive domino effect to life, Beko has created an interactive experience set to launch at IFA 2023. Designed to inform consumers of the potential of the positive domino effect, the experience, named DOMINO: The Little One, is a free to play video game that helps consumers understand the impact of their choices. Set in a fantasy world devastated by climate change, players can experience the impact of positive, incremental actions necessary to survive within the game. The game will be available on Steam, App Store, and Google Play this winter.

Siemens @IFA 2023

Siemens asked the question as clearly as possible: What does artificial intelligence mean for us? What does AI mean, for example? in the kitchen and in the rest of the home?

The German manufacturer, in its “Garden of Intelligence” at the IFA fair, itself provided a number of rather good answers.

Artificial intelligence is, for example, often something we overlook. Because we as consumers do not update that the product has become intelligent. We don’t need to talk to an “Alexa” or another robot until something is actually “artificially intelligent” to us.

“The artificial angel is bigger than the individual product. Bigger than the oven or coffee machine. Bigger than the washing machine talking to the dryer”.

“Artificial intelligence is about saying ‘hello’ – and that all your white goods and household appliances then listen and learn. Let’s not talk so much about the individual appliances. Let’s say hello to them and see what they can do”, said Siemens’ German product manager.

Siemens then gave simple and clear examples of precisely the artificial intelligence built into their products. For example in the dishwasher’s program selection, where the machine quickly discovers that the consumer only normally uses two or three programmes. Therefore, the machine, step by step, takes this into account, as there is of course the possibility behind it that the consumer can choose far more advanced programs for. e.g. glass washer or other.

The refrigerator is also aware that today’s consumer makes fewer and larger purchases. Therefore, the refrigerators have systems built in that keep food fresh longer. There is simply more space, more light and more temperature zones.

“The white goods have, almost without us realizing it, become intelligent problem solvers”. it sounded from Siemens.

The refrigerators are also getting bigger. Siemens presented, like its colleagues from Bosch, new XL refrigerators, which measure 194 centimeters in height and 77 centimeters in width as standard. Up to 45% more “utility value” or storage space in the same product.

Finally, Siemens was also involved in the trend for products to clean themselves and partially repair themselves. The Eco900 coffee machine is able to “clean itself”. The washing machine itself tells the consumer about the fault it has found or is about to find, e.g. a clogged filter. After this, the consumer can solve the problem himself or with simple help from a distance – without expensive service visits.

The role of the appliance service man is changing.

Last, but perhaps not least, Siemens withdrew the guarantee to supply key spare parts by five years. Siemens now guarantees a 15-year supply of critical spare parts against a previous ten-year guarantee. To that extent, sustainability has become a competitive parameter

Miele @IFA2023

86 percent of Western European consumers declare that sustainability matters a lot to their choice of product. Even so, only 11% of consumers actually choose to use the eco program. Most people think that choosing energy label A is the only thing they need to do to be sustainable…

That’s how sharp it sounded from Marcus Miele, representative of one of Miele’s two founding families, when German Miele held a press conference on 30 August 2023 at the IFA fair in Berlin.

There is no doubt that sustainability is “the nerve of our time”. And there is also no doubt that Miele is trying to give consumers answers to the demands of sustainability at every turn.

This applies in production, where already in 2021 Miele switched to using 100% green energy in the manufacture of products at all factories.

And this applies in the relationship with the consumer, where Miele, like other major manufacturers, links the digital with the sustainable more strongly than ever.

The linking of artificial intelligence with sustainability takes place in a series of new apps, where the consumer can get a “consumption overview” and can set the appliances to run when it makes the most sense in relation to the electricity price. The new apps are designed so that there is also “fun” and competition involved, probably inspired by the apps where athletes today can compete virtually in running, cycling, golf etc.

New at Miele is “AI-diagnosis”, where artificial intelligence can make repairs a new, better and cheaper experience. The consumer can troubleshoot his washing machine, possibly with the assistance of a technician who follows the distance. The consumer can also be notified of upcoming errors. The new AI technology can predict e.g. a clogged filter or a need for descaling.

Miele has taken several years of oven technology development into an app – Meal Sync, so that the artificial intelligence itself analyzes the food that is put in the oven and calculates the cooking and roasting times.

“Stress-free cooking”, as it was called. The technology can do a lot: “However, you still have to chop the vegetables yourself”, as it dryly sounded in a side note from Miele director Axel Kniel.

All in all, the product news was lined up at Miele’s press conference. A microplastic filter for the washing machine was presented, a Laundry Dry Cabinet for the wrinkled clothes was presented.

As well as a new, further developed version of Miele’s cordless vacuum cleaner, and convenient new cordless Duoflex HX1 stick vacuum cleaner, was presented by Reinhard Zinkann. With its SpeedLock system*, patents pending, and a matching wall bracket, the Duoflex HX1 is astonishingly simple to operate. A further benefit is the modern design concept with six attractive colour versions. ‘This vacuum cleaner is far too attractive to be stowed away in a utility room’, is Zinkann’s verdict. The Duoflex HX1 has proven motor technology from Miele’s Euskirchen plant to thank for its suction

Further improvements on the dishwashing front

Previously, Zinkann had drawn attention to the Miele dishwasher as a ‘success story of the special kind’, with over 940,000 units sold in a single year, five wins in a row with Germany’s consumer watchdog Stiftung Warentest, the Green Product Award 2023 – and with almost all models from the current G 7000 series sporting the top ‘A’ energy efficiency class. ‘For this IFA, we have further perfected our dishwashers’, Zinkann announced. By way of an example, he cited additional programmes for thorough, energy-efficient and gentle cleaning in equal measure. In addition to this, the dishwasher baskets have undergone further development to securely accommodate reusable bottles and drinking straws for thorough cleaning. At the end of the day, it is those small things and details which often make a difference – for greater sustainability in everyday life.
