Electrolux Group puts the spotlight on resource efficiency with AEG EcoLine

Global appliance company Electrolux Group – under its premium brand AEG – is showcasing, for the first time, its most resource-efficient models at IFA 2023: the AEG EcoLine. AEG EcoLine is a dedicated selection, presented in-store and online, of the company’s most resource efficient appliances covering all major product categories and aimed at helping consumers to reduce climate impact while providing high-quality performance. The sustainable selection of appliances from the current AEG and Electrolux portfolio as well as the new AEG SaphirMatt induction hob with scratch-resistant glass will be revealed at IFA 2023

According to Electrolux Group’s science-based approach and Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), approximately 85% [1] of the global climate impact of an appliance, during its lifespan, is generated when it is in use. Therefore, to help reduce climate impact while providing high-quality performance, all models within AEG EcoLine have been designed to be used effortlessly, at their top efficiency, every day while meeting the brand’s strongest energy label ratings.

“Technological innovation is at the heart of every model within AEG EcoLine with functions designed to make life of consumers more enjoyable while making it easy to take more sustainable choices. Resource efficiency and performance without compromise is what consumers want and it’s what AEG EcoLine delivers,” says Chris Braam, CEO Europe Electrolux Group.

“We chose IFA 2023 to present the AEG EcoLine selection to an international audience because of its important role in highlighting innovation. AEG EcoLine is a significant step forward in making resource-efficient models stand out when people are looking for an appliance in-store or online, and we are very much looking forward to showcasing it to our trade partners and consumers in Berlin,” adds Braam.

Midea could acquire Zanussi and its activities in Egypt

According to Egyptian media Midea Group is considering the acquisition of Zanussi brand from Electrolux Group . The acquisition deal is expected to be finalized by the fourth quarter of 2023.

In July, the Swedish giant had appointed Societè Generale to handle the sale of the Zanussi, Ideal, Faure, Zanker, Rosenlew, Elektro-Helios, Zoppas, Olympic Electric and Kwikot brands and activities in Africa and the Middle East.

Electrolux’s activities in Egypt became relevant in 2011 with the acquisition of Egyptian Olympic Group, the largest white goods manufacturer based in the Middle East. Electrolux employs 2,238 people in Egypt.

98% of electricity used in Electrolux global operations comes from renewable sources

98% of the total electricity used in Electrolux Group manufacturer operations came from renewable sources. While a small proportion of non-renewable electricity is still sourced, Electrolux Group is proactively working to achieve 100% renewable electricity globally by 2025.

Electricity accounts for 60% of Electrolux Group’s total energy use and is a key component of the company’s journey to eliminate the use of fossil fuels in its operations by 2030 and across the entire value chain by 2050. This percentage will grow in the coming years as Electrolux Group operations are increasingly electrified.

Electrolux Group now has sites with solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in Italy, Thailand, Australia, Mexico, China, South Africa and Sweden. In 2022, these systems avoided greenhouse gas emissions of around 5,000 CO2e by producing around 10 GWh of electricity

Electrolux robot cleaner

New 600 robot vacuum cleaner by Electrolux is available in three models (ER61UW1DG, ER61UW1DB and ER61UD1UG). This appliance allows user not only to program the day and time of activation, but also to remotely monitor the work directly from an app. Thanks to the navigation technology that uses the combined action of gyroscopes and integrated camera, the robot vacuum cleaner organizes its work. It autonomously follows the optimal trajectories and passes without difficulty from hard floors to carpets, overcoming obstacles up to 15 mm in height and ensuring 120 consecutive minutes of operation with a full battery charge. In addition, the suction power can be adjusted on three levels. With its height of only 78 mm it reaches the narrow spaces and the charging base is also compact in size. The ER61UW1DB and ER61UW1DG versions have a washing function and the latter model is also equipped with automatic recharge: when the battery drops below 20%, the robot returns autonomously to the base, to then resume the cleaning process once the charging is complete. Finally, Electrolux has set up a 2-layer filtering system in the new robots.

Electrolux Group focuses on its own brand and AEG, to sell Zanussi brand

After another quarter of losses, Stockholm is preparing to sell plants in Hungary and Memphis, all brands except its own, AEG and Frigidaire, plants in Egypt and South Africa. Objective: to earn 0.9 billion euros The Electrolux Group has commissioned Societè Gènèrale to seek buyers for all its ‘minor’ brands: Zanussi, Zoppas,  Ideal, Faure, Zanker, Rosenlew, Elektro-Helios, Olympic Electric and Kwikot, as well as the plants in Egypt and South Africa. Activities that in 2022 generated 7 billion crowns, 610 million euros, i.e. 5% of the group’s total turnover. The Hungarian plant in Nyíregyháza and the US one in Memphis are also up for auction.
Electrolux hopes to raise 10 billion crowns in this way, less than 900 million euros (and just over a year’s turnover of the brands and factories in question).

Electrolux Green zone refrigerator

The Electrolux Group site in Susegana has opened its doors to the Plastics Recycling Award Europe 2023 – Automotive, Electrical or Electronic Product of the Year 2023! The award was in fact won by Green Zone MaxiSpace, the refrigerator developed and manufactured at the Treviso site. Green Zone MaxiSpace is the first built-in refrigerator with internal linings made of 70% recycled plastic from decommissioned refrigerators and represents a record in its category, given that 13% of the plastic used overall for its construction is recycled plastic. Thanks to the precious work of all Susegana colleagues, from those who work in R&D, in purchasing and up to those who work directly in the production areas, Green Zone MaxiSpace is a concrete example of our commitment to research and implement new and sustainable solutions, which allow us to reuse and reduce waste and the use of virgin materials. An approach that is also very popular with our consumers, who demonstrate that they perceive the value of this product both from the point of view of aesthetics and sustainability.
