LG Unveils AI-Powered Washer with Advanced Fabric Care

Set to debut at IFA next month, LG Electronics is gearing up to showcase its latest washing machine—a true marvel of technology. The star of the show? The AI Direct Drive 2.0 technology, which promises to revolutionize laundry care.

So, what’s the buzz about AI Direct Drive 2.0? Let’s dive in:

  1. Intelligent Fabric Care: LG’s Smart Washing Machines equipped with AI DD can automatically determine the best settings based on the weight and softness of your fabrics. No more guesswork—just optimal wash cycles tailored to your laundry.
  2. Quiet and Efficient: Unlike traditional washing machines that rely on belts and pulleys, LG’s Direct Drive motor is directly connected to the drum. This design minimizes noise, reduces vibration, and enhances durability. Plus, it’s energy-efficient!
  3. Adaptable to Various Loads: Thanks to deep learning algorithms, the AI DD system adapts to different fabric types and load sizes. Whether you’re washing delicate silks or heavy denim, it’s got you covered.
  4. Detects Load Details: When you start a cycle, sensors detect the weight and fabric type of the load. The AI algorithm then selects the perfect combination of drum movements, water levels, and washing time for optimal cleaning performance while being gentle on your clothes.

In a nutshell, LG’s AI Direct Drive 2.0 aims to reduce fabric damage by 10%, ensuring your favorite outfits last longer. Laundry day just got smarter!

Published recently by Electrolux The Truth About Laundry Report are the findings of our seven-year, science-led research program focused on extended clothing life which shows that choosing lower temperatures and shorter cycles can length the lifespan of clothes by more than 50%.

For example, a cotton T-shirt washed at 30°C for 59 minutes will last over 50% longer than if it’s washed on a regular 40°C cycle which can last up to 120 minutes, if not longer.

Miele starts selling refurbished electronic parts

According to a UN report, 62 million tonnes of electrical and electronic waste (including old washing machines, PCs, and mobile phones) were produced in 2022 – an increase of 82 % compared with 2010. In most cases, the electronic modules end up dumped along with the appliance, not only resulting in the loss of valuable resources but also damaging the environment. Miele is tackling this problem head on by taking back and refurbishing an increasing number of damaged and broken components. Customers in five EU countries can now choose to have a refurbished electronic module fitted when their appliance requires repairs.

On average, only 22 % of all electrical waste produced is recycled. Most of the components that are not recycled end up on landfill sites or are burned. “We’re fighting back against electrical waste and giving used electronic components a new lease of life,” says Axel Kruse, SVP Customer Service at Miele.

If the electronic modules in a washing machine, a dishwasher or a coffee machine require replacing, Miele service technicians are now able to offer customers the choice of a new or a reconditioned spare part when they attend to make the necessary repairs. Despite costing around a third less than the equivalent new parts, reconditioned parts are still tested to the same strict quality criteria. Refurbished electronic modules can also be used when carrying out repairs covered by warranties and contractual agreements – including when these services are provided by Miele service partners.
