the fifth year running, Electrolux has collaborated with students from the Umeå Institute of Design (UID) to develop product ideas for the home of the future.

With more people living alone today than at any point in recorded history,* the majority in small urban apartments, demand for goods such as small appliances, flatpack furniture and foldable items is rising. That’s why the students this year were challenged to develop progressive premium product ideas for single people living in small spaces. The 14 students from the Master’s program in Advanced Product Design created concepts for so-called singletons living a micro-home lifestyle in four major cities – Hong Kong, Munich, Mumbai and New York.

“These students challenge conventional assumptions,” says Thomas Johansson, Design Director at Electrolux. “They envision the future and create concepts that harness the essence of our brand in a captivating way. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for Electrolux to reach the best emerging talent.”

The product ideas:HumiTex: a slim dehumidifier that hangs in a closet to ensure optimal conditions for clothing, with premium materials and connectivity to signal when it needs to be emptied. Midea starts work on new heat pump plant in Italy

Chinese home appliance maker Midea Group began construction of a new base for the production and research and development of heat pumps in Feltre, a town of Veneto in northern Italy, on Friday, aiming to help facilitate its international market expansion.

The new base, with an investment of 60 million euros ($58.75 million), is located inside a production area of Italy’s Clivet, a European leading company that designs, produces and distributes systems for cooling, heating, air ventilation and air purification for residential, commercial and industrial markets.

Midea acquired an 80 percent stake in Clivet in 2016, aiming to expand its presence in the European central air conditioning market

Daniele DEGLI EMILI will officially become Group Managing Director for the Europe-Asia zone. He succeeds Simon BARBEAU, in office since 2018.

As part of his new functions, Daniele DEGLI EMILI will be responsible for pursuing and accelerating the growth of the only French manufacturer graduate of the Polytechnic University of the Marches in Ancona in Italy, Daniele DEGLI EMILI began his career in 2000 as Marketing Manager at Mol Holdings in Milan. He joined the INDESIT group in 2002, where he successively held several Marketing positions, including the position of Western Europe Marketing Director until 2014. The same year he became Italy Managing Director of the VESTEL Group. Two years later, he joined the CANDY HOOVER Group as Washing Marketing Director before joining the BRANDT Group in 2019.

A specialist in the household appliance sector, Daniele DEGLI EMILI has held the position of Strategic Marketing and International Trade Director of the BRANDT Group since 2019. The roadmap of the new Chief Executive Officer notably plans to strengthen the promotion of Made in France, French know-how and to ensure the development of activities in France and internationally.

Teka presents the Autodose washing machine

Teka presents the Autodose washing machine, a free-standing model that stands out for its electronic washing management and its large capacity. The Autodose function allows the washing machine to use the precise amount of detergent and fabric softener for each wash, based on the laundry load and the soil it detects.

Simply fill the drawers with detergent and fabric softener for the first time and the Autodose function will distribute it for several washes, and can even serve up to several months. When the product is finished, the washing machine will notify you to refill the compartments.

The new Autodose washing machine has 14 automatic washing programs, with which it is possible to adapt each wash to the needs of the clothes. It also has a large capacity of 10 kg and a T-Inverter motor, which provides greater durability and efficiency with noise levels of only 80 dB.

This model of washing machine in dark steel color incorporates 10 special functions, among which the Steam function stands out, with which it is possible to eliminate viruses, germs or bacteria through steam; the fast wash function, a booster function that reduces the washing time of the programs; and of course the Autodose function.

It should be noted that it has energy classification A and that it incorporates several efficient programs, such as the Super rapid 15′ program and the Eco program

Electrolux Agrees to Sell Idle Factory in Memphis

Electrolux, Europe’s biggest appliances maker, has agreed to sell its idle factory in Memphis in the United States for $82.5 million, it said in a statement.

The Swedish group said late on Wednesday it aimed to finalise the deal with an undisclosed buyer, and book a gain of around 740 million crowns ($65.3 million) from it, in the fourth quarter.

Reduced ecological footprint

According to Krups, the “Vertuo Pop” has very low energy consumption and is made from 35% recycled plastic. The box consists of 99.5% plastic-free material and is recyclable. Nespresso is also committed to sustainable coffee quality along the entire value chain. As part of the “AAA Sustainable Quality” program, this includes, among other things: sustainable cultivation, fair payment for farmers and agroforestry.

The aluminum capsules can be recycled again and again. Furthermore, by the end of 2022, the capsules for the home will be made with at least 80% recycled aluminum. Also by the end of 2022, every cup of Nespresso coffee should be completely CO2-neutral, certified by the “Carbon Trust”. Nespresso initially wants to achieve this through offsetting, i.e. the purchase of carbon credits from forest protection and clean energy projects in coffee-growing countries
