Samsung &LG@CES2023

South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. are set to showcase their high-end home appliances at the CES 2023, the world’s largest electronics exhibition to be held from Jan. 5 to Jan. 8 of the next year in Las Vegas.

Samsung Electronics will demonstrate products of Bespoke Infinite Line, a premium lineup of Bespoke, the tech giant’s kitchen appliance brand with customizable design. The company launched the premium lineup in Korea in February of this year.

Bespoke Infinite features durability and high-quality metal that makes a luxurious texture to the surface of the products. The lineup includes one-door refrigerators to store kimchi, wine and other food, four-door refrigerators of extra-large capacity, ovens, inductions, smart range hoods and dishwashers.

The tech giant will launch the premium lineup in the European market, including France, Germany and the UK, during the first quarter of 2023 and will also enter North America and Southeast Asia within the next year.

LG Electronics will emphasize minimalist aesthetics in its home appliances to be launched next year. The company will exhibit refrigerators, washing machines, clothes dryers, ranges and dishwashers with simple designs at the electronics show.During the next edition of CES (Las Vegas, January 5-8), LG will present the new InstaView™ French-Door refrigerator. The company’s new, 25.5-cubic feet counter-depth refrigerator offers a generous capacity, despite a nine percent reduction in depth compared to a conventional French-Door model. To increase internal storage space, LG redesigned several of the fridge’s core components – slimming-down the cold air duct and the evaporator, while also reducing thickness by applying enhanced insulation. Although its expansive interior provides 25 percent more room for storing food and drinks than LG’s previous counter-depth models, the new French-Door can still help to save space in the kitchen thanks to its smaller footprint.
LG’s new InstaView French-Door refrigerator – said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company – makes a superb, stylish addition to any modern kitchen, offering consumers the ultimate in convenience, design and food freshness. We will continue to deliver outstanding customer value and experiences with innovative home solutions leveraging elegant, functional design and our advanced technologies.

The new model is bordered in sleek stainless steel, while the mirror-coated glass of the seamless InstaView panel covers almost the entire right-hand door of the refrigerator. Just by knocking twice on the panel, users can check inside without having to open the door. The subtle, minimalist beauty and clean, modern lines of LG’s latest InstaView are further enhanced by the discrete pocket handles applied to the fridge’s ‘flat’ doors.

Samsung washing mashine reduces microplastic to 54%

Samsung and Patagonia met to begin discussions on developing a solution to reduce microplastics that are shed from clothes when washed. Microplastics have a major impact on the environment, threatening not only the marine ecosystem but the health of the humans as well.

Since Samsung’s Digital Appliances division was already conducting its own research to reduce microplastics, we were able to form a mutual understanding and agreed to work together quickly – said Chiwoong Yoon, who worked on ESG Strategy and acted as manager throughout the collaborative project -. The support from Patagonia heavily motivated us and gave us the confidence to accelerate the development of a practical solution and commercialize it.»

In order to accurately and objectively verify that microplastics were being reduced, the companies needed help from a research institute in the field. Patagonia introduced the nonprofit marine conservation research organization Ocean Wise Plastics Lab to Samsung.

A year after the development began, Samsung finally succeeded in developing a laundry cycle that is specifically designed to reduce microplastic shedding by up to 54 percent. This technology both effectively washes clothes and reduces the release of microplastics, all while maintaining the quality of clothes

Samsung profits decline

For three years, Samsung was able to increase consistently in the third quarter; however, that growth has suddenly abruptly stopped. While the company’s revenue only managed to expand by less than 3% over the same time the previous year, this stop results in an operating profit decline of approximately 32%

The South Korean company anticipates its operating profit to be about KRW 10.8 trillion (roughly $) and it’s aggregated sales to be around KRW 76 trillion (roughly $). The company’s operating profit has decreased by 31.7% year over year even though its sales have climbed by 2.73%. In the last three years, this is the first earnings drop for the corporation.

Samsung has announced the release of its AI-powered washer and dryer, along with a host of other smart laundry solutions.
Samsung Electronics has announced the global release of its Bespoke AI Washer and Dryer. The products are “the most sustainable, efficient and intelligent Samsung washer and dryer to date”, according to the company. The products will expand Samsung’s signature Bespoke line-up, and are being launched in stores across Europe and the Middle East in August 2022.

The Bespoke AI Washer and Dryer pair can handle large load capacities while also having a sleek, space-saving design. Furthermore, the products boast a range of sustainable features, offering a dependable performance while saving users energy, resources and money. The new front-load laundry pair from Samsung has a new feature called AI Ecobubble. This innovation turns detergent into small bubbles which are swiftly absorbed into the laundry itself. In turn, this reduces energy usage by up to 70%, while apparently offering the same level of cleanliness to clothes, regardless of the wash temperature. In addition, the technology allegedly reduces soil or dirt removal by up to 24% while improving fabric care by 45.3%.

The AI Wash Cycle is another innovative feature which helps users get clean clothes in a more sustainable way. The smart feature washes clothes with less water and detergent after detecting the weight and softness of the fabrics in each load. The AI Wash Cycle can also actively monitor the ongoing dirt level of laundry, and uses its Auto Dispense feature to adjust the optimal amount of water and detergent to the wash.

Samsung sustainable solutions

Samsung’s vision for sustainable solutions at home includes reducing waste by extending the lifespan of its appliances through reliability and sustainable solutions based on durability. This allows the company offers a 20-year warranty for the digital inverter technologies in its washer, dryer and refrigerator.

As Samsung explains, «digital inverter technology is an essential core component of the appliances they power. Built on more than 25 years of research and development, DIT affects everything from energy efficiency to performance as well as the durability of major appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines. As such, protecting the integrity of this core component, with a 20-year warranty, extends the use period of appliances, offers peace of mind for users through reliability and reduces environmental waste».

In washing machines, the DIT comes in the form of a digital inverter motor (DIM) used to spin and pulsate the drum of the washing machine during laundry cycles. «Samsung’s decades long research and expert engineering mean that its DIMs are more advanced in several aspects compared to ones found in traditional washers» – the company adds. Samsung’s digital invertors provide more precision and power while producing less noise and vibration.

In refrigerators, instead, digital inverter technology takes the form of digital inverter compressors (DIC) that act as the heart of the unit, circulating cold air throughout the compartments. Samsung’s DIC intelligently adjusts its power depending on circumstances instead of just turning on and off.

Samsung’s connected home app to power 13 home appliance brands

Samsung Electronics’ integrated home appliances solution SmartThings is poised to be applied to Samsung plus 12 other major white goods brands by the first half of 2023, the company said Wednesday.

This comes as Samsung’s SmartThings is to make consumer electronics goods and mobile apps interoperable under the standard provided by the 13-member Home Connectivity Alliance, through an update of Samsung’s smart home solution next year.

The update will allow users of 13 HCA member brands — including Samsung, Arceik, LG Electronics, Electrolux Group, Haier, GE Appliances and Trane Technologies — to control more than 40 functions in 15 white goods categories designed for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and entertainment.

SmartThings will also be able to connect 300 brands of third-party devices more to build a smart home ecosystem, considering SmartThings system’s scalability, according to Samsung.

This will enable not only the interconnectivity of non-Samsung devices achieved at the level on par with that of Samsung, but also the control of electronics devices of different brands in the home through a single app.

Samsung added that a demonstration attended by HCA member companies will take place from Friday to Monday during the IFA 2022 in Berlin. The demonstration will feature Samsung’s products, including the Bespoke Cube Air Purifier, Bespoke Jet Bot AI Plus, Bespoke Refrigerator and Neo QLED TV.

Samsung Electronics has been a founding member since the HCA’s establishment in 2021, and its executive holds a leadership position of the alliance. Choi Yoon-ho, head of product planning at the IoT Biz Group at Samsung Electronics, is serving as the HCA President and Board Chair.

So far, Samsung Electronics has more than 235 million registered users of SmartThings globally across over 105 million connected devices manufactured by Samsung.
