VIKICKS

The VIKICKS plasma filter is a revolutionary patented filter that silently removes cooking odors from a room, while letting the heat into the room.

“Due to the different sizes and shapes of the VIKICKS filters, they can be placed in almost any extraction system. In addition, a VIKICKS filter only needs to be replaced once every five years. This makes a significant difference when compared to, for example, a carbon filter, which each year to be replaced. Said an enthusiastic Martin van der Sluis.

With a VIKICKS plasma filter, odors and harmful substances are eliminated through advanced plasma technology. The filter is controlled by a small 5.5 Volt adapter and is a plug & play solution that automatically cleans the air.

Elica purifier extractor hood

According to World Health Organization we spend 90% of our time in closed spaces and breathing clean air greatly benefits both our health and mood. For this reason, #Elica is launching its new hood with integrated purifier, #IkonaMaxxiPure. Two products in one, designed to take care of household air every day, because well-being starts at home.

The Elica Ikona Maxxi Pure extractor hood is nothing new. It is an island model 120 cm long with an otherwise quite wise design. But if we look at the technical sheet, we discover that it not only includes a classic air filtration system for a hood (grid and carbon filters, therefore), but also an air purifier similar to those which enrich our test after test comparison. To these conventional barriers is therefore added a HEPA filter which must retain particles larger than one micron.

To avoid seeing said filter being saturated too quickly with grease and fumes, the air purifier part (which also accommodates an activated carbon filter, a combination called Combo Pure Filter by the manufacturer) does not suck what comes through the underside of the hood. This stale atmosphere is first treated by the “extractor hood” part before being rejected towards the top of the Ikona Maxxi Pure, from where it will be sucked by the air purification system to be finally rid of the last. harmful elements (formaldehyde, VOCs, allergens, etc.) it contains.

Note that each function of the extractor hood can be used independently. It is therefore not necessary to start the entire filtration circuit if you only want to purify the air in the room when you are not cooking.

At its maximum suction level, the Elica Ikona Maxxi Pure extractor hood can swallow 475 m³ / h, which is suitable for a kitchen of 19 m²

BOSCH SIEMENS

Bsh goes with its ambitious programs of decarbonizing its value chain. The company first sourced green steel from Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH in September 2021, thereby reducing its CO2 footprint by more than 66%. Low CO2 steel is to be initially used for mounting brackets in washing machine production at BSH’s Lodz plant in Poland. This is another step on the way to achieving BSH’s ambitious sustainability goals. For Salzgitter AG, the production and market launch of green strip steel is an integral component of its decarbonization strategy.

Bsh’s development and manufacturing processes at its locations all over the world have been CO2 neutral since the end of 2020. «In comparison with 2018 – Bsh Chief Operations Officer Silke Maurer said – we want to shave 15% off our Scope 3 CO2 footprint generated by procuring raw materials and parts, as well as through household appliance usage. In a bid to achieve this, we have always offered our consumers particularly energy efficient products. We are now looking very carefully at areas where we have less of a direct impact, such as the production of raw materials and the recycling of products, for instance. Therefore I am absolutely delighted that we are now able to make decisive progress in decarbonizing the value chain together with Salzgitter AG».

Moreover, the recycling of raw materials and products is major lever for BSH in its endeavors to minimize waste and conserve resources. Consequently, the company is increasingly offering circular business models as well, which enable consumers to rent household appliances or share them. After utilization, the appliances are returned, recycled for reuse and, at the end of the product life cycle, recycled in an environmentally compatible manner. Steel, for example, is subsequently melted down in Salzgitter AG’s electric arc furnaces at its Peine location.

Ufesa shows how its purifiers eliminate the SARS-CoV-2 virus by 99.97%

Ufesa shows how its purifiers eliminate the SARS-CoV-2 virus by 99.97%

Ufesa’s range of purifiers is capable of trapping and destroying viruses and bacteria with an efficiency of more than 99.97%, including Sars-CoV-2. This has been confirmed by Carolina de la Torre, scientist at the Josep Carreras Leukemia Institute and head of scientific platforms, and Iñaki Castresana, Ufesa communication director, during the presentation of these devices, held last week, in which its performance and innovative technology have been put to the test. The Josep Carreras Leukemia Institute, a public research center, has been responsible for the experimental design for the execution of the microbiological tests of the purifiers.

The differential value of Ufesa air purifiers is found in the innovative and unique antimicrobial coating of the Hepa filters. This coating features an organosilane quaternary ammonium compound with antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral activity. Its particularity lies in the fact that it is an organic, non-toxic and environmentally friendly compound capable of destroying the membrane of bacteria and viruses.

Carolina de la Torre explained how the filters of these devices destroy the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes the Covid-19 disease: “the structure of the integral filter system is divided into three parts. The coating of the Hepa filter proceeds mechanically, killing the microorganisms that are trapped in it, since it acts like a blade, being able to pierce the virus membrane ”.

Filtering more reliable and safe for people

Thanks to the effectiveness of the coating, the filters in Ufesa purifiers have also improved. The firm has developed an improved filter that not only traps pathogenic microorganisms, but also actively eliminates them and is also less aggressive to the human body than other existing solutions.

This range of Ufesa air purifiers consists of the PF5500 Fresh Air models, covering surfaces up to 60 m²; PF3500, for surfaces up to 40 m; and PF6500 Clean Air Connect, for spaces up to 115 m².

Beko officially opens new Innovation Centre at Marlborough Coll

Arçelik, the holding company for Beko, officially opened the new Beko Innovation Centre at Marlborough College, the UK’s largest co-educational independent full boarding school located in Wiltshire.

This £5m ambitious new building, supported by a generous donation by Beko Plc and several other donors, will not only provide state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities but will become a hub for local, national and global collaborations in the spheres of social enterprise, engineering, technology and education.

The generous floor to ceiling heights will provide opportunities for the construction of large-scale prototypes, promoting new and exciting ways of exploring ideas, unconstrained by standard classroom sizes.

Over 50 people attended the opening event, including the generous donors who supported the project and the staff who made the building happen. They enjoyed a morning of speeches and demonstrations which showcased the College’s vision for the future of Science, Technology and Innovation both within our curriculum and in outreach programmes and external collaborations. Pupils from the Lower Sixth explained how they have been training with the Young Guru Academy to use their award-winning Twin Science and Robotics kits with our local primary school partners in classroom sessions which will commence this month.

The College’s partnership with Beko will leverage the advanced capability of Beko’s Research and Development facility in Cambridge and will extend and grow both parties’ existing academic outreach and partnership programmes. It is also hoped that collaborations with business and HE can be facilitated in the future through the Cambridge Network.
