Panasonic’s partnership with SideChef kicked off in May 2020, with the aim of making cooking at home easier and more enjoyable. Miele artificial intelligence for cooking and top washing performance

Among the protagonists of IFA 2020 Special Edition has been Miele. During the press conference Dr. Axel Kniehl, Executive Director Marketing and Sales, and Dr. Reinhard Zinkann, Executive Director and Co-Proprietor, presented the new products and the other news about the company.
Miele innovations involve different sectors.
In the kitchen area, the brand presented an oven with a camera that identifies food and controls the cooking process. Thanks to the intelligent new Smart Food ID feature, the camera is even able to detect which dish the oven is dealing with and suggest an appropriate programme. Based on artificial intelligence, it is already able to digitally identify more than 20 dishes and the system is learning more as time progresses.
Smart Browning Control is another smart aid created by Miele: it produces a perfect pizza by using a camera to detect the level of browning, allowing it to tell when the pizza is done and stop the oven at the right point in time. Moreover, CookAssist for Miele induction hobs provides step-by-step guidance through the entire frying process via the Miele app.
A special guest at the press conference was Max Lössl, founder and CEO of the new Miele subsidiary Agrilution, which is bringing the pioneering concept of vertical farming to the home. Vertical farming provides an environmentally, space-saving way of producing food in multi-level fully automated greenhouse units, all as close to the place of consumption as possible. However, the fully automated greenhouse units (Plantcubes) from Agrilution, are no bigger than a standard refrigerator.

Important news are also present in Laundry sector, as explained at IFA by the Executive Director and Co-Proprietor Reinhard Zinkann: «exclusive Miele technology such as the highly efficient PowerWash and the TwinDos two-phase dispensing system make WT1 appliances the most convenient and intelligent washer-dryers on the market – he said. – The new appliances are able to wash up to 9 kg of laundry and dry up to 6 kg. And in situations where there’s only little time to spare, they are able to wash and dry as much as 4 kg in less than three hours with flawless results. Individual items can even be washed in a way that is fast and kind to the environment – in less than an hour, depending on the programme.»
Zinkann also reflected on the company’s current business situation. «I am delighted to tell you that the Miele Group has coped quite well with this year so far.»
Sales so far in the 2020 business year actually reached a level that was 2% higher than the same period in the previous year, despite the significant slumps experienced in March and April due to the Corona situation.

The oven range has been renewed with the new VIVOscreen displays which allowing more information and functions to be shown. Intuitive, easy to read and simple to use. High definition images illustrate the extensive range of automatic programmes for smart cooking.

The addition of the new extra wide VIVIMax screen allows the user to have access to greater information at one time. More functions are accessible which makes it quite easy to read and simpler to use. The full touch vertical and horizontal scrolling makes navigating through the new display a pleasure to the fingers as well as the mind. In order to make it easy to use, users get an explanation of the function performed by a specific item on the display through a pop-up box that appears if the item is held for 3 seconds.

The new bright colours, visual icons and High Definition graphic effects allow the viewing experience to be phenomenal and a pleasure to the eyes. If you prefer to create your own recipes, then the My Recipes section allows you to store up to 64 of your own favourite dishes into the memory of the oven.

In order to have consistently perfect cooking results, the temperature probe monitors the core temperature of the food. As a result, the cook has complete control over the cooking and can personalise results just to their liking.

The new display is available in two versions: VIVO, with a size of 4” x 3” (9.5 x 5.5 cm), and VIVOMax premium display, with a size of 6 ”x 3” (15 x 5.2 cm). Both displays can be found on our Linea and Dolce Stil Novo design lines.

The VIVOscreen ovens will join Smeg’s smart range, known as SmegConnect. Beurer presented at IFA its sea air simulator

At this year’s IFA Global Press Conference in Berlin, Beurer presented the maremed® sea air simulator, which creates a marine climate at home. The product cleans, mineralises, sterilises, ionises and humidifies the ambient air. The modern, coordinated system works through the addition of special natural sea salt that contains more than 65 trace elements. The device simulates the biodynamics of the seaside using a patented principle: sea salt solution (the maremed® special sea salt is blended with water to create a sea salt solution), air cleaning (the fan draws in the ambient air; a pre-filter removes dirt particles, pollen, fine/domestic dust and animal hair from the air), sterilisation (through the use of the UVC lamp, up to 99% of bacteria, viruses and micro-organisms are eliminated from the water), mineralisation (just like in nature, the air flowing through is enriched with minerals from the water by a water evaporator block), air ionisation and humidification (the ioniser part performs additional ionisation and cleaning, before the mineralised air is returned to the environment). The appliance can improve breathing intensity and general well-being. It humidifies the airways in a natural way, helps to relieve asthmatic symptoms and promotes restful sleep. The air is humidified without vapour or salt deposits forming. The device can be operated via the LCD display with a sensor touch button. User can also choose between three fan levels, a timer function (1-24h) and a night mode. The product is suitable for room sizes of up to 50 m² and is easy to clean.

Candy Nova is the first washing machine with just one button

At IFA 2020, the Haier Group presented

Candy Nova, the world’s first washing machine without a physical interface that can only be controlled via smartphone. It’s an interesting design choice, fully interpreting the new smart-home zeitgeist. As Haier’s European CEO, Yannick Fierling, explained, 21% of the company’s smart washing machine users now use only their smartphone to select a program and start a wash: that’s three times more than 2018. Candy Nova can be fully controlled through the new hOn application for iOS and Android, the software that acts as a control hub for the ecosystem of all the Chinese group’s products, like all other Haier, Candy, Hoover and Ge connected appliances the full control of a washing machine to an app is a brave marketing choice. It might deter less tech savvy consumer from a purchase, but it definitely makes sense for a lot of millennials and late-millennials, which is a big enough target group. Moreover, according to Haier’s market research, 70% of users consider adding new washing programs to their appliance to be a useful feature. Candy Nova perfectly embodies Haier’s new philosophy, which sees the connected and smart design of its appliances as a meaningful growth opportunity. The goal, as Fierling told us during a recent interview at IFA, is to stop selling just “the technology” and start instead selling experiences that can be customized by each user according to their specific needs. BSH presented at this year’s IFA its innovative products and personalized services for the kitchen. Smartness is a protagonist: the digital platform Home Connect is currently available in 40 countries and 25 languages, and offers significantly greater convenience than simply the remote control of appliances. By using this interactive assistant, many kitchen tasks can be defined to meet users’ own preferences. Everything from a digital recipe search in the app and controlling a connected oven to prepare a selected dish, to choosing the dishwasher’s program and lighting in harmony with the atmosphere of the evening. Besides, BSH’s SystemMaster ensures added convenience: this new microprocessor turns BSH brand appliances into digital services platforms. Among other things, it helps BSH’s own customer service center to diagnose and fix equipment faults via remote maintenance. In addition, self-learning algorithms allow the development of new services that are more accurately tailored to consumers’ needs. SystemMaster represents solutions with which BSH can continue its journey from a manufacturer of analogue home appliances to a sector leader for digital services and personalized kitchen experiences.
As regards to the dish washing, BSH presented the new series of dishwashers. This entirely newly-developed series is a multi-brand platform for a range of different models – from basic to premium. All the dishwashers are fitted with SystemMaster, are Internet-capable, and thus can learn to adapt to consumers’ individual routines and receive regular system updates over-the-air. The appliances are extremely energy-saving due to zeolite drying, and offer many intelligent solutions such as a completely new interior layout with a third load deck for small kitchen utensils that enlarges the load compartment by up to 25%, or an innovative “glass zone” in which even high-value glasses can be safely put into the dishwasher. In addition, Siemens focuses on cookery-related innovations, with its presentation of the new “glassdraftAir” table-top cooling fan together with two new cooking hobs: “activeLight” with an interactive light matrix and “inductionAir Plus”. With the Series 6 washer-dryer, Bosch offers the opportunity to wash and dry up to 6 kg of laundry without interruption – and to do it using steam assistance, so clothes are wearable directly from the machine. The XXL fridge-freezer combination offers more space and the innovative “VitaFresh” freshness system ensures that the temperature in specific zones is held constant at 0° Celsius, so fresh foods such as fish or salad have longer shelf lives, and does it all with an A+++ energy efficiency rating.
Finally, BSH places great value on achieving an ecologically sustainable design for its entire value-added chain. This holds true both for the manufacture of the appliances and for the continuous improvement of their energy efficiency. The efforts to achieve a recycling economy initiated by BSH are also leading to a considerable overall reduction in the use of resources, in emissions and in energy consumption. As a clear statement of its own commitment to this, BSH will fully neutralize carbon dioxide emissions from its own sites worldwide by the end of 2020. This will make the development and fabrication of all BSH branded appliances climate-neutral from 2021 onwards.
