According to the repairability index Indice de réparabilité, ASKO home appliances are among the top 3 repairable household brands in France. The purpose of the index is to inform the consumers about the possibility of repairing the purchased product, and to contribute to greater environmental awareness and sustainable practices. This repairability index covers five main criteria: availability of documentation; dismantling, access and tools; availability of spare parts; spare parts prices; specific criterion for the category.
The http://www.indicereparabilite.fr platform is an initiative of Spareka, the spare parts specialist, based on the criteria, defined by the Ministère de l’Environnement.
In 2020 in France only 40% of faulty electrical and electronic devices were repaired. In order to prolong the appliances life, to avoid the premature disposal of products, to reduce waste, and to preserve the natural resources, necessary for the production, the French government aims to increase this proportion to 60% within five years by setting up a repairability index to be displayed in stores. The goal is, too, to turn the repairability index into sustainability index by 2024.
The repairability index is supposed to help to change the purchasing behaviour towards products that are more easily repairable, and to encourage the consumers to resort more to repairs of the broken appliances rather than buying a new one.

LG Sets New Paradigm With Upgradable Home Appliances
LG Electronics (LG) is set to change the existing paradigm of home appliance usage with an upgradability option that adapts to the unique and changing lifestyles of customers. Developed under the concept, Evolving Appliances For You, LG upgradable appliances have the capability to incorporate new features developed in the future based on owners’ usage patterns and habits. What upgradability brings to the table is the ability to add a new function or convenience to an existing appliance through new software, new hardware or both. For example, users can improve the performance of the LG PuriCare air purifier when a new pet joins the family by upgrading with the Pet Care Filter to more thoroughly filter out pet fur and dander from the air. [1] Upgradable LG dryers can be enhanced later on to handle different climates and fabrics with new accessories and software downloadable from the Upgrade Center in the LG ThinQ app.
For the customer, upgradability enables the LG appliance to keep up with changing trends and usage patterns over the many years of that product’s lifespan, extending usefulness many times over. In all, LG is planning to introduce approximately 20 upgradable appliances this year. [2]
“Upgradeability challenges the idea that expensive appliances are designed with planned obsolescence in mind,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “We want customers to experience the feeling of getting a new washer or refrigerator throughout the entire lifecycle of an LG appliance, not just the first time they bring the item home.”
Customers in specific markets can expect to see LG’s first upgradable washer and dryer later this year. Follow LG’s Home Appliance Instagram account (@lg_homeappliances) for more information when available.

EBAC Microplastic Filters
John Elliott MBE, founder and chairman of North East producer Ebac, the UK’s only maker of washing machines, has written to Alberto Costa MP to assist his Private Member’s Bill – Microplastic Filters (Washing Machines). Mr Costa’s Bill, which has its Second Reading on 21st January 2022, will ‘require producers to fit microplastic-catching filters to new domestic and industrial washing machines.’ In his letter to Mr Costa John Elliott points out that due to the fact they use less water than many other manufacturers, Ebac washing machines already significantly reduce the number of microfibres released from garments during the laundry process because the amount of microfibres released is proportional to the amount of water used. John Elliott MBE said: “This is a very important campaign, that is part of making laundry more environmentally friendly. Ebac engineers are actively working on filters that will integrate into our washing machines to help resolve the problem of microfibres polluting the environment, rivers, and seas. “Ebac’s green credentials stretch further than this. One of our appliances was recently named by Which? as the most efficient washing machine that they had tested due to its low energy consumption. Our innovative ‘hot fill’ option reduces energy consumption, which also has the benefit of lower running costs, which is becoming more and more important as energy prices rise. “Our big USP is our carbon footprint – being made in the UK at Ebac’s factory in County Durham means our machines travel at most a few hundred miles, unlike other brands which are being imported from across the world. “I would be delighted to work with Mr Costa on his important initiative.”
Electrolux joins Home Connectivity AllianceHome Connectivity Alliance
Electrolux is now a member of the Home Connectivity Alliance (HCA) to make devices and apps work together across brands for a better consumer experience. Electrolux joins Samsung Electronics, Haier, GE Appliances, Arçelik, American Standard Heating and Air Conditioning and Trane Residential as founding members of the HCA, launched at CES. This alliance aims to ensure interoperability so consumers can use their television, washing machine, oven and other appliances across different brands, platforms and apps. “Electrolux is focused on sustainable consumer experience innovation that can help shape living for the better. As the number of connected products continues to grow in homes across the world, the need for cross brand interoperability increases to enable great consumer experiences. This is why we are happy to be part of HCA”, said Ola Nilsson, Electrolux Group CXO. “Interoperability is a necessity in order for us to drive ease of use and create value for consumers – added Electrolux CTO Andrea Corda, who will represent Electrolux on the HCA as a Board Director -. It’s similar to setting protocols, the same way you can use one browser to access any website across the internet. You’ll be able to use one device, be it your phone or your tv, to operate anything from an air purifier to an oven. Within that interoperability, we’ll create another layer to show what Electrolux, or AEG, or Frigidaire can do for you”. Along with interoperability, consumer safety and data privacy are key pillars of HCA’s mission. Home Connectivity Alliance members will have the opportunity to innovate, share expertise across peers, and become leaders in expanding the connected home ecosystem.
Fabita
Fabita is an Italian company that was set up around 11 years ago by a few managers from the household appliances sector. The company specialises in electric glass-ceramic induction hobs and hoods for third-party brands. This business has grown exponentially over the last few years due to the development of induction at a global level, which has boosted the business so much that in 2019 we decided to add what could be an identifying brand to the company. The idea was to transform Fabita by creating a line of products under its own name, but with an innovative proposal with a strong personality. Hence the project to work with the internationally renowned design studio Adriano Design, founded by architects Davide and Gabriele Adriano. The request was to deconstruct the classic induction hob and hood, thinking of them in a totally different way to meet the new living requirements

Fabita has always operated in the kitchen world, but, since 2019, we have been looking at the HoReCa channel, participating in Host for the first time. We had the opportunity to return live at Host2021 with our new product range, which deconstructs traditional kitchen furniture. It was here that we were able to see what the developments in the sector have been in recent years: we noticed a tendency by all hospitality facilities to renew their kitchens and appliances by focusing on design. The industry’s stakeholders have this need to differentiate themselves, not only by presenting their services in a different way but also by presenting themselves with a new, more sophisticated image, focusing on sophisticated and attractive equipment. Just think of the redefinition of the layout of premises where the open kitchen becomes the star of the restaurant environment and therefore requires new components to be put on display.
It is a quest for a quality product that not only requires a unique design but also the technological aspect: when it comes to food service equipment, technology plays an increasingly important role. https://hubs.ly/Q011-Kdv0

Featuring the company’s core cooking technologies, these premium appliances are the first to offer seamless integration with the new LG ThinQ™ Recipe service.1 Double Oven Range features LG InstaView technology that lets users see inside an appliance by simply knocking twice on the glass, illuminating the interior without having to open the door and letting hot air escape. A complete cooking solution for today’s homes, both products are made their debut at CES 2022 next week.
The new oven range leverages LG’s ProBake® Convection technology for quick and thorough cooking without preheating to deliver delicious, evenly-cooked meals every time. With its precise temperature and airflow control, ProBake provides shorter cooking times and is also the key ingredient in the oven’s Air Fry and Air Sous Vide modes. Air Fry allows cooks to create delectable, crispy fried treats using far less oil than deep frying while Air Sous Vide ensures tender, juicy dishes that will keep diners wanting more. And delicious doesn’t mean having to wait longer, thanks to LG’s UltraHeat™ Power Burner technology. The other half of the exceptional kitchen duo, LG Over-the-Range Microwave Oven, employs proprietary Steam Cook technology to prepare foods that are juicier, healthier and tastier. The Slide-out ExtendaVent™ in this premium microwave is effective in reducing the presence of smoke and lingering odors in the kitchen. And with its EasyClean interior, the oven is a breeze to keep clean thanks to the advanced coating that prevents food and grease from sticking and allows easy cleanup with only a damp cloth.2 LG’s minimalist design language is perfectly exemplified in the stainless steel and tempered glass of LG WideView™ Window.
New for 2022, LG ThinQ Recipe service delivers a more complete and convenient user experience by making all smart kitchen services and content from LG and its partners available in one place. Accessed via the ThinQ app, LG ThinQ Recipe offers a seamless journey that allows anyone to search, plan, purchase and cook, following hundreds of easy-to-follow recipes including mouth-watering options from talented creators and LG Originals Series, the latter prepared by LG’s own chefs showcasing how to best use features of LG cooking appliances. Proactive Customer Care, LG’s AI customer service solution, can be accessed from the intuitive ThinQ app as well. Register My Appliance Week (from Jan 17 to 21)
During Register My Appliance Week (from Jan 17 to 21) manufacturers, fire services and safety campaigners will be urging the public to register their many treasured appliances that, unlike our cars, are still off the radar if a free safety repair is ever needed.
A striking AMDEA pop-art campaign will highlight a serious message as householders are asked if their appliance manufacturer would know which machines they have in their homes if a fault comes to light with their model. The answer is ‘no’ for some 100 million appliances, according to recent research. But this could all be remedied by people taking a few minutes to register their much-loved appliances.
While the recent increase in online purchasing (reportedly soaring as high as 70%) and the advent of smart appliances will all help to improve traceability, according to government estimates we are now running more than 212 million essential appliances to cook, wash clothes and dishes, clean floors and store our food.
Yet official research also found that 49% of us have never registered a product, potentially leaving some 100 million large and mid-sized older machines untraceable. But registration can be done easily – even in these circumstances – because the process can be completed at registermyappliance.org.uk without a receipt or knowing exactly when the appliance was first bought.
A recent AMDEA survey of appliance users nationwide, in both rental and owned properties, revealed that the vast majority (83%) of respondents did not know or did not think they could register an older appliance that they had not purchased themselves.
The predominant reasons for not believing this possible were not knowing the dates of purchase (59%) or not having the receipts (48%) – neither of which applies to registration as a safety precaution.
