Miele and KptnCook

Miele and KptnCook (Berlin startup in which Miele has a majority stake) are working on new concepts to ensure the continued growth of the KptnCook recipe app. For some time now, the app has also been available in Spanish, alongside German and English. “Never before was the fast and varied preparation of good food as simple as it is today – Miele says –: a fresh meal is ready for serving within only half an hour, thanks to the prize-winning app. Every day, the app suggests three creative recipes which are balanced, nutritious and easy to follow. Cooking instructions with step-by-step photographs accompany the process. The support provided by the digital app ranges from individual recipe inspirations to shopping at the supermarket through to finished meals”. More recently, the premium version of the app has offered a weekly meal planner. This allows complete meals and associated purchases to be planned ahead for an entire week. Various options are selectable for the preferred recipe: ingredients which don’t agree with the user or the consumer simply doesn’t like can be deleted from the list. The app provides users exclusively with recipes which match their eating habits. Besides, KptnCook and Miele are working together on new topics. One example is the development of KptnCook recipes specifically for Miele induction hobs with the TempControl feature and CookAssist which take users by the hand and accompanies them through the entire cooking process with explanatory photographs on a smartphone or tablet. On the hob, Miele’s intelligent TempControl sensor guarantees the right temperature at all times by recognising the temperature of cookware and holding it automatically constant. 2022 will see the launch of further joint activities within the app in order to exploit synergies and to further consolidate collaboration between Miele and KptnCook.

New Samsung oven range offers steam, air fry and air sous vide cooking

Samsung Electronics has announced the launch of its new 4, 5, 6 and 7 series cooking appliances, including multiple ovens which come with various steam features that promote healthy eating.

Steaming food
Full Steam surrounds food such as vegetables or fresh fish with a vapour of hot steam, so they are cooked optimally and retain their natural flavour and vitamins; Add Steam fills the oven with steam, leaving food tender inside and crispy outside; Natural Steam gives succulent and crispy baking results without the need of specialist drawers or other equipment

Air Frying food
The Air Fry mode cooks food using a little oil and without a deep fryer, eliminating excess fat whilst keeping things succulent inside and crispy outside. One can simply place food on the tray with just a touch of oil and select the Air Fry mode.

Air Sous Vide
This technique provides even more tender and tasty cooking by accurately sensing the temperature and keeping it even over a long period. This means everything is cooked thoroughly, wherever it is placed in the oven, and tastes deliciously tender and succulent

Both oven series are also equipped with “SmartThings” Cooking which enables a grocery shopping experience and generates a weekly meal plan with personalised recipes with easy-to-follow instructions that suit the user’s dietary requirements, such as vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free. Although they don’t have to have any smart appliances to use the app, any SmartThings-connected refrigerators (such as Family Hub), ranges or ovens will sync up with it for even easier food management.

Dan Harvie, Vice President, Head of Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics, said: “A healthy diet is essential for good health and nutrition, which is why Samsung continues to innovate and provide features to encourage people to cook more healthily.

“Samsung has announced a new range of ovens and cooking appliances offering leading nutritional cooking benefits, including air frying and various settings for steam cooking even including Sous Vide all within one appliance.

“Plus, with SmartThings Cooking, you can get personalised recipes and a weekly meal plan that promote healthy eating, ensuring you always stay on track. Many of the new ovens also perfectly steam vegetables and fish, so food is cooked optimally and retains its natural flavour and vitamins.”

In addition, Samsung has announced the launch of new hobs and hoods following the highly anticipated relaunch of Samsung’s ‘Kitchen Circle’, a focused programme giving support, education and rewards to dedicated Samsung Kitchen Specialists who believe in the brand’s vision.

Kitchen Circle offers support through a specialised technical team, as well as access to a full suite of online marketing and training materials and in-store video assets.

2022 KOOP event empowers industry with more than 200 virtual workshops

This year’s “KOOP” cooperative event hosted by the two biggest trade alliance groups in the German electronics industry – expert and EURONICS – offered retailers more than 200 virtual workshops exploring over 70 topics.

This year’s event was originally planned as an in-person trade show, aiming to drive personal interaction in a fully booked exhibition hall, so it was a disappointing blow when the on-site part was cancelled. As a hybrid format had been intended from the outset, the result was, under the circumstances, exceptional. .

The huge interest shown by the industry and its service providers has encouraged the partners to further pursue their concept of a joint trade fair. The organisers have thus announced that expert and EURONICS are already planning next year’s KOOP in conjunction with Messe Berlin. KOOP 2023 is set to be held at Berlin’s exhibition grounds from 18 to 21 February 2023.

Dr Stefan Müller, CEO of expert SE, is full of optimism: “We’ve learned over the past two years that we can successfully and flexibly forge new paths. In this respect, virtual formats are undoubtedly a valuable complement to an in-person trade fair from expert’s perspective. That said, personal contacts are at the heart of our business success, particularly when it comes to cooperative partnership. That’s why we’re looking forward to the upcoming IFA!”

Benedict Kober, CEO of EURONICS Deutschland eG, concurs: “It goes without saying that EURONICS will be exhibiting at IFA again this year. Year-end business promises to be particularly strong in the consumer electronics sector, particularly as this year’s FIFA World Cup is being played in winter and not in its normal summer slot. September’s IFA will therefore be extremely important with regard to product innovations.
