V-ZUG increases profitability despite a difficult market situation

Full-year results for 2023:
Declining sales volumes, increased gross profit and targeted cost management

In 2023, the V-ZUG Group generated net sales of CHF 585.4 million, 8.0 % lower than the previous year (CHF 636.3 million). During the pandemic-induced boom in 2021–2022, sales volumes were extraordinarily high. In addition to this base effect, inflation, rising interest rates and a corresponding decline in demand had a negative impact on sales volumes in the reporting year. This development was exacerbated by the reduction of inventory levels at V‑ZUG partners. To address the market-related decline in volume, additional measures to increase sales and cost-saving initiatives were implemented that had a positive effect on the operating result and cash flow. The operating result (EBIT) amounted to CHF 16.8 million (previous year: CHF 10.3 million, + 63.1 %). Free cash flow improved to CHF 18.2 million (previous year: CHF – 52.2 million). For the year 2024, V-ZUG expects the market environment to remain challenging and continues to be committed to its medium-term targets through investments in market development and positioning, production as well as ongoing projects to increase innovation and efficiency.

GE and Tantalus partner on energy-efficient home

GE Appliances, a subsidiary of Haier, and Tantalus Systems have announced a collaboration aimed at reducing peak energy usage in home appliances, HVAC systems, and water heaters. The partnership aims to integrate the GE Appliances EcoBalance System with Tantalus’s TRUSense Gateway to help manage energy consumption in real-time and support grid modernization efforts.

The EcoBalance System, developed in partnership with Savant, allows consumers to control their energy usage through a market-leading capability. With the integration of the Tantalus TRUSense Gateway, which can be installed without replacing existing meters, appliances will be able to “communicate” with energy providers. This enables functions such as scheduling refrigerator defrost cycles or water heater charges during off-peak hours to save energy and reduce demand during peak times.

Kevin Nolan, President and CEO of GE Appliances, highlighted the potential impact of the partnership, noting GE’s extensive install base of connectable appliances that could significantly contribute to electricity savings. Peter Londa, President & CEO of Tantalus Systems, also emphasized the benefits of the collaboration for utilities, including improved resiliency and sustainability.

BSH recycling of packaging

BSH, are making it easier for consumers to dispose of packaging responsibly,
Since August 2023 BSH products’ package features a QR code that provides quick and easy access to information on how to dispose of packaging material properly. This is in response to a new labeling requirement introduced in Italy on January 1, 2023, which mandates that products and their packaging must display information on proper disposal.

In just seven months, BSH rolled out a QR code on the packaging of BSH products worldwide. By scanning the QR code, consumers can access a website with PDF that provides illustrated examples of packaging materials, information on the type of packaging, and disposal instructions.

To create this comprehensive database, BSH took around 360 photos over two days at BSH’s largest spare parts logistics warehouse in Fürth, Germany. Currently available in eight countries, we plan to expand to more countries based on demand.
already more than 30,000 people used the QR code and website to access information on proper packaging disposal.
