Beko partners with Youreko to help consumer choices with Energy Savings Tool

Beko, one of the leading home appliances brands in Europe*, is delighted to announce its integration with Youreko, an energy efficiency tool that helps consumers choose sustainably and understand the financial running costs when choosing new appliancesThe integration of the Youreko tool on Beko’s website, displays information to consumers on how energy efficient Beko’s appliances are when compared with traditional models and how much money the consumers could save in the long run with manufacturer’s appliances. The tool supplements the listings of Beko’s washing machines, washer dryers, tumble dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators and freezers.Currently operational on the Beko UK website, the Youreko partnership will be further implemented on Beko’s websites in Romania and Poland, helping consumers across Europe to calculate their cost saving potential.

Resource efficiency is a key priority for Beko, particularly in the current economical and climate-conscious environment. This integration with Youreko is an extension of the brand’s ongoing commitment to providing products for their consumers to encourage sustainable living.

The tool helps consumers on Beko’s websites by providing more information on the energy consumption and financial cost of running a particular appliance. Utilising an easy-to-read gold, silver or bronze tiered rating system, the tool signals where money and energy can be conserved most, helping consumers make more informed buying decisions.

By integrating Youreko into its products, Beko is also able to make a smart-recommendation to the consumers based on a product’s energy efficiency rating. This calculation is based upon a comparison against a more traditional, like-for-like model of the applianc

Appliance giant Arcelik bets on China, says company CEO

The CEO of Arcelik, one of the world’s biggest home appliance makers, told Xinhua recently that China is a bright spot for business amid global recession fears and an increasingly gloomy market outlook.

Speaking of the present headwinds against the world economy, Hakan Bulgurlu said, “we will have to go through a lot of pain before it gets better.”

China, however, is “a little bit of a different picture,” he said in a video interview with Xinhua.

Established in 1955, Arcelik is a Turkish multinational household appliances manufacturer headquartered in Istanbul. With 45,000 employees, its global operations include subsidiaries in 53 countries, 30 production facilities in nine countries.

Arcelik’s domestic sales in China have grown by roughly 80 percent in 2022.

“I find China one of the more promising places to be in the future. It has always been the factory of the world, and I think it will continue to be the factory of the world,” said Bulgurlu.

“The world economy has significantly slowed down, and we are facing a recession on many fronts,” said the Turkish businessman, who had lived in Hong Kong for 13 years.

Calling himself “a big fan” of China and Asia, Bulgurlu said he is optimistic about the business performance in the future Chinese market. “I think demand for appliances continues. We want to continue investing in China to actually bring our brands in.”According to Bulgurlu, four product groups, namely heating and cooling, refrigeration, lighting and electric motors, consume about 40 percent of all power. Many current technologies have made these production much more efficient.

“We need global regulations to make us use the best available technologies in all of these product groups to reduce power consumption,” he said.

Regarding the upcoming COP27 meeting, he said “I hope to make some progress and talk not only with policymakers but other CEOs as well.”

“I actually admire China in the sense that when China makes a decision, it follows through very, very fast,” Bulgurlu said.

Beko expects 100% of energy resources to be renewable by 2030

The data shows, human activities and influence have generated an unprecedented climate and environmental crisis. Without going any further, each year around 2 billion tons of waste are generated in the world and, by 2050, the figure could grow to 3.4 billion tons.

In this context, Beko has integrated sustainability into all its axes, offering added value and providing solutions that are more respectful of the environment.

The recognition of the international group has been thanks to the saving of 2.17 million m3 of water with water efficiency projects and rainwater collection in factories, the use of more than 7,000 tons of recycled materials in its products and the initiative of 228 energy efficiency projects, between 2020 and 2021. In addition, through the use of recycled cardboard in their packaging, they have managed to save more than half a million trees in 2021.

The company’s commitment for 2030/2050 is to use 100% renewable energy resources, achieve 99% waste recycling in all global manufacturing operations and increase the use of recycled content up to 40% in its products. and reduce water and energy consumption per product by 45%. The goal for 2050 is to achieve net zero emissions throughout the value chain.

Innovative environmentally responsible technologies

Thanks to technology, Beko is constantly exploring new solutions that help consumers and, above all, respect the environment as an added value. Beko SaveWater dishwashers guarantee perfect cleaning results with 1/3 less water consumption. AutoDose® is another featured technology for dishwashers and washing machines, which dispenses the optimal amount of detergent, based on load and soil level. In washing machines, AquaTech® technology, thanks to the power of water, reduces washing time by half, which implies a consumption of up to 30% less energy than class A washing machines.

In relation to the recycling that has been generated since the project began in 2017, the company has managed to recycle more than 58 million plastic bottles with a reduction in CO2 emissions of almost 2,200 tons.

An example is the RecycledTub washer and dryer, made from plastic waste that has been transformed into an alternative raw material. For its part, the RecycledNet oven is made from waste extracted from fishing nets and industrial thread; while the RecycledDry dryer has been designed with an average of 15% recycled plastic. Finally, the BioCycle refrigerator is one of the products made with biocomposites to protect the plane

Arçelik, Named in Top Three Companies at Real Leaders Eco Innovation Awards

This week, Real Leaders® launched the inaugural Eco Innovation Awards to its global community of social impact executives. Arçelik, parent company to 12 leading home appliance brands including Beko and Grundig, has been ranked 3rd in the Top 50 list for its world first integrated FiberCatcher® technology washing machine.

Real Leaders® Eco Innovation Awards recognizes products, projects, and initiatives that are actively contributing to a healthier planet and celebrates achievement in making an environmental impact. Entries were judged on their creativity, innovation, originality, and measurable impact, as well as their ability to help solve an environmental challenge.

One key issue is synthetic microfibers which are the most prevalent type of microplastics found in water, contributing to around 33% of microplastics in the ocean1. To combat the growing tide of microplastic waste, Arçelik developed the innovative FiberCatcher® technology. The washing machines with FiberCatcher® technology include the world’s first integrated synthetic microfiber filtering system that catches up to 90% of synthetic fibers released from garments, which helps protect waterways, oceans, and marine life. Additionally, each FiberCatcher® washing machine produced with a recycled PET tub contains up to 60 recycled bottles to reduce plastic waste.

“We are honored to have our innovation recognized by Real Leaders and pleased to be in the company of our fellow award winners,” said Hakan Bulgurlu, CEO of Arçelik. “The climate crisis is the most pressing issue of our day, and we need creative, innovative solutions as well as collaborative action to ensure a sustainable future. Our FiberCatcher® technology is a world-first innovation in preventing synthetic fiber waste leaking into waterways and demonstrates our commitment to develop effective and concrete solutions to some of our biggest environmental challenges as well as to encourage others to live a more sustainable lifestyle.”

BEKO HEALTHY KITCHENS

Beko Home Appliances, considered to be among the world’s most sustainable appliance manufacturers, is using Earth Day to announce a slew of eco-conscious initiatives including a strategic alliance that places two of the first and highest-profile Beko Healthy Kitchens in one of the world’s healthiest and most sustainable homes

The U.S. subsidiary of Arcelik, Inc., has partnered with gaming and tech icon Michael Wann to design and outfit the chef’s and family kitchens in Wann’s 4,500-square-foot net-zero carbon home taking shape in Santa Monica, Calif. Currently chief strategy officer for Super League Gaming and instrumental in the growth of Tastemade, Fullscreen and Mobcrush, Wann is building a two-level home near Santa Monica College as both a personal residence and a public example of the possibilities of healthy, sustainable home and kitchen design.

“For years, our dream has been to build a home that reflects our love for a healthy, balanced day-to-day life and fully sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyle,” Wann said. “The result will be an attainable net-zero-carbon showplace of accessible healthy, earth-friendly living – and a tangible example for others wanting to make a real difference in their own health and the health of the planet without sacrificing lifestyle goals.”
With the introduction of the Beko Healthy Kitchen earlier this year, Beko is looking to transform the U.S. industry in 2022 and beyond through expert councils, inspired kitchen designs and buildouts, major corporate strategic alliances and at least 35 new cooking, cooling and cleaning products with proprietary technologies and features that empower Americans to lead healthier lives while contributing to a healthier planet.

“To have the first tangible Beko Healthy Kitchens take shape in a home intended to serve as a best-in-class example of healthy, sustainable design represents perfectly the Beko mantra that healthy living is only truly possible on a healthy planet,” said Zach Elkin, president of Beko Home Appliances.

A floorplan by Vaishali Makim, AIA, principal of Makim Architecture of Santa Monica, calls for sweeping, light-filled open spaces, four bedrooms and four bathrooms, separate family, living, entertainment and formal dining rooms, a personal gym and climate-controlled wine and cheese room. Wann started construction in May 2021 on the former site of his family’s vegetable garden and expects move-in by January 2023.

For Wann’s 145-square-foot downstairs chef’s kitchen and 152-square-foot upstairs open-floor-plan family kitchen, Beko is working with designers on its Beko Healthy Kitchen Council to combine appliances, cabinets, surfaces, lighting and interior aesthetics with nutrition, recipe-prep, and earth-friendly elements to create centers of health, wellness and sustainability. Both kitchens will boast an array of the latest Beko kitchen and laundry appliances that were announced at KBIS 2022 including dishwashers equipped with CornerIntense® and IonGuard™, refrigerators with HarvestFresh+™, an industry-largest Beko Double-Wall Oven and range with AirFry, and washing machines outfitted with AquaTech® and RecycledTub® each made from 60 recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles.

The home will also feature the world’s first rooftop installation of a SmartFlower solar system that combines integrated sculptural design, advanced robotics and automation to track the sun throughout the day to produce 40% more energy than traditional solar panels.
