Haier new smart manufacturing air conditioning factory?

Unconfirmed Chinese press reports claim that Haier plans to invest CNY2.5bn (US$350m) to build a new smart manufacturing air conditioning factory in Qingdao, eastern Shandong Province.

The factory, near Haier’s current headquarters, will be capable of producing five million sets per year. These will include wall-mounted units, duct units, multi-splits, heat pumps and other products for the domestic market, Europe, North America, Australia, the Middle East, and southeast Asia.

The first phase is expected to be put into production in September 2026 and the second phase in December 2027.

LG Establishes New Air Solution R&D Lab in Europe,

LG Electronics (LG) is establishing a new Air Solution Research and Development (R&D) Lab in Frankfurt, Germany. The state-of-the-art facility will join existing LG Air Solution Labs in Changwon, South Korea; and Atlanta, Georgia, USA, to form a global R&D triangle.

The new 10,000-square-foot lab will focus primarily on developing high-efficiency heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions for Europe’s varied local climates. Research and testing will be carried out on a wide range of residential and light commercial HVAC systems, including heat pumps, energy monitoring systems and energy management platforms. Through executing an extensive, locally-focused R&D program, the Frankfurt lab will reinforce LG’s ability to provide HVAC solutions tailored for the European market.

Additionally, the new lab will collaborate with the company’s recently launched European Consortium for Advanced Heat Pump Research to develop heat pumps that can reliably deliver top-tier heating performance during Northern Europe’s harsh winters. To strengthen the capabilities of its European HVAC business, LG plans to nurture and actively recruit local talent in fields such as heat pump design and smart home technology.

Ebac signals ‘significant’ drop in trade

Manufacturer Ebac is in talks with investors and finance firms to aid work on its latest project, despite noting “significant issues” with a decline in trade, accounts show.

The Durham business, which makes washing machines, dehumidifiers, water coolers and heat pumps, has filed delayed accounts for 2022 which also outline a “challenging” few years for the business. In 2022 turnover rose from £20.13m to £21.86m and operating losses narrowed from £3.07m to £2.7m, with the overall loss for the year coming in at £3.19m, down from £3.25m.Ebac is in more talks with financial organisations, saying the group is “well advanced in discussions with other third parties regarding potential equity investment, securing additional debt finance and is also exploring options regarding further connected party loans”.Following publication of the accounts, Mr Elliott said: “These accounts demonstrate that the business is making good progress following a globally challenging time. Gree Electric Appliances: Net Profit Reaches 29.017 CNY Billion in 2023,

Gree Electric Appliances disclosed its annual report for 2023. The report reveals that in 2023, Gree Electric Appliances achieved an operating income of CNY 203.979 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7.93%. The net profit attributable to the shareholders of the listed company reached CNY 29.017 billion, marking an 18.41% increase from the previous year Furthermore, during the reporting period, Gree Electric Appliances’ products were sold to more than 190 countries and regions, with overseas business achieving operating income of CNY 24.904 billion, and the proportion of independent brands accounting for nearly 70%, an 8% increase year-on-year.

Midea to acquire Arbonia HVAC businesses

Midea has agreed the €760m purchase of Swiss group Arbonia’s Climate Division, which includes HVAC businesses Sabiana, Termovent and Tecna.

The acquisition through Midea subsidiary Midea Electrics Netherlands BV follows an announcement by Arbonia at the end of February that it had received several “unsolicited expressions of interest” in purchasing its HVAC businesses
