Tradition of Excellence: Miele’s Journey of Innovation and Sustainability

Founded in 1899 by Carl Miele and Reinhard Zinkann, Miele has built a legacy of quality, innovation, and durability that spans over 125 years. As a fourth-generation family-run business, Miele has consistently set industry benchmarks—from launching the first electric washing machine in the 1920s to introducing its first dishwasher in the 1960s. Guided by its enduring motto, “Immer Besser” or “Always Better,” the company remains committed to excellence.

Miele products are uniquely engineered to last—most are tested for a service life of up to 20 years. This commitment to longevity, backed by strict quality control and premium materials, has positioned Miele as one of the most trusted names in home appliances.

Sustainability at the Core

Miele champions sustainability through its design philosophy: longevity is the most effective form of environmental responsibility. The company places strong emphasis on energy efficiency and resource conservation. A prime example is the “EnergyHero” washing machine, which surpasses the threshold for the best energy efficiency class A by 40%. Alongside eco-conscious product innovation, Miele aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2030, backed by continual optimization of its production processes.

Smart Technology for Smarter Living

Innovation at Miele is also defined by cutting-edge digital capabilities. Its expanding AI ecosystem includes the “Smart Food ID” feature, which automatically detects dishes in the oven and adjusts cooking settings accordingly. The “AI Diagnostics” app helps users identify maintenance needs before problems arise. As Managing Partner Dr. Markus Miele puts it, “Our products are already smart and provide real added value in the home. But our investment in AI extends across the entire company—from administration to manufacturing to service.”

Constant Evolution Through R&D

Miele’s portfolio includes high-performance appliances such as washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, refrigerators, cooktops, vacuum cleaners, and fully automatic coffee machines—all known for precision engineering and elegant design. Continuous investment in research and development fuels the brand’s ability to deliver fresh, relevant innovations to meet evolving customer needs.

Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, Miele aims to solidify its premium market leadership through breakthroughs in smart appliance technology. At the upcoming IFA trade show in September, the company will unveil new flagship cooking products that exemplify next-generation innovation.

Strategically, Miele is investing approximately €500 million in Germany by 2028 to expand production capacity and reinforce its position as a leader in premium home appliances. International expansion and new sales channels are also key to its growth agenda.

Despite ongoing global challenges—from the construction sector slowdown to consumer uncertainty and geopolitical instability—Miele remains focused and optimistic. “We are undeterred in pursuing our strategic path,” says Managing Partner Dr. Reinhard Zinkann. “With our heritage and forward-thinking mindset, we look to 2025 with confidence
