Miele has announced that it has once again been recognized as the most durable brand on the market by a reliability survey carried out by the most important consumer organization in Europe, in which more than 50,000 European users participated.

Miele won the German Sustainability Award 2023 in the ‘Home Appliances’ category. The Gütersloh company had already obtained the award in 2014. The lifespan of its products, the attention to reducing the resources used in the production phase and the CO2 emissions during the use of household appliances together with the responsibility assumed towards of supply chains and employees earned Miele the jury’s recognition.
The German Sustainability Award recognizes companies from all industrial sectors that have achieved success on their long and arduous journey towards sustainability. Miele has filed a revocation action against Australian Patent No. 2012247900 in the name of Wilhelm Bruckbauer, CEO of BORA.
Initially, BORA had issued a formal demand regarding Miele’s infringement of BORA’s intellectual property rights by selling downdraft cooking hobs in Australia. After being notified about the revocation action BORA filed a cross-claim alleging patent infringement by Miele.
After extensive examination, BORA considers that the sale by Miele of its downdraft cooking hobs in Australia clearly infringes its Australian Patent and is pursuing its legal options to enforce its intellectual property rights.
BORA will enforce and defend its patents and will not accept any infringement of its intellectual property rights. The management of BORA share the view that its patents and other intellectual property must be respected.
About the company
BORA develops and produces innovative premium built-in kitchen appliances with impressive design standards. The German-Austrian company group positions its portfolio internationally with the claim ‘More than cooking.’ Since Willi Bruckbauer founded BORA in 2007, the company has been committed to revolutionising the kitchen as a living space by questioning the ordinary. Its mission: to offer extraordinary products for extraordinary experiences.
The story began with the innovative cooktop extractor systems, which use intelligent technology to draw cooking vapours downwards and are continually developed through BORA’s own drive for perfection. After the expansion of the product range to include the BORA X BO, a professional steam oven for your home, and the associated BORA multi-drawer, refrigeration and freezing systems as well as lighting followed. BORA products are characterised by outstanding performance, simple cleaning and simple operation. Thanks to their timeless design, they fit perfectly into any kitchen, where they provide fresh air and a clear view.
BORA employs over 500 people, primarily at its sites in Raubling, Niederndorf and Sydney as well as in its flagship stores in Munich and Herford, and sells its products in over 60 countries worldwide.
Back in 2009, the company received its first award within the scope of the innovation contest 365 Orte im Land der Ideen, followed by the Deutscher Gründerpreis and numerous Red Dot Awards, Plus X Awards, German Design Awards, Iconic Awards, German Brand Awards, Good Design Awards and iF Design Awards, among others
Miele induction hobs received two important design awards: the iF Design Award and the RedDot Design Award. Two hobs with an integrated extractor (TwoInOne) and a full-surface induction hob were each double winners.both powerful and quiet in operation. Their reduced design is characterised by the central air intake with a grille set in the ceramic glass screen. This feature, in particular, convinced the jury of the Red Dot Award and allows pots and pans to slide freely. The grille on the rectangular air intake blends in seamlessly with the design of the hob. Depending on the model, the grille is either completely black (KMDA 7272 Silence) or has discreet brushed stainless-steel slats (KMDA 7473 Silence).
A further recipient of the iF and the Red Dot design prize was the KM 7897-1 FL Diamond full-surface induction hob. As many as 6 pots, pans and oven dishes can be placed anywhere on the 90 cm wide hob unit and move around freely. This guarantees untold freedom during cooking. Moreover, the ceramic screen on the hob unit features a special coating: DiamondFinish is one of the hardest surfaces on the market and hence particularly scratch-resistant
FC Bayern and Miele have extended their cooperation for another three years. The German record champions and the world’s leading supplier of premium domestic appliances have been partners since 2020.
Andreas Jung, FC Bayern board member for marketing: “FC Bayern and Miele stand for enjoyment. We want to inspire fans with our game, Miele inspires them with gourmet experiences. We are delighted to have extended this partnership for a further three years. Continuity is important to us and we are sure that we can continue to offer people a lot together – on and off the pitch

86 percent of Western European consumers declare that sustainability matters a lot to their choice of product. Even so, only 11% of consumers actually choose to use the eco program. Most people think that choosing energy label A is the only thing they need to do to be sustainable…
That’s how sharp it sounded from Marcus Miele, representative of one of Miele’s two founding families, when German Miele held a press conference on 30 August 2023 at the IFA fair in Berlin.
There is no doubt that sustainability is “the nerve of our time”. And there is also no doubt that Miele is trying to give consumers answers to the demands of sustainability at every turn.
This applies in production, where already in 2021 Miele switched to using 100% green energy in the manufacture of products at all factories.
And this applies in the relationship with the consumer, where Miele, like other major manufacturers, links the digital with the sustainable more strongly than ever.
The linking of artificial intelligence with sustainability takes place in a series of new apps, where the consumer can get a “consumption overview” and can set the appliances to run when it makes the most sense in relation to the electricity price. The new apps are designed so that there is also “fun” and competition involved, probably inspired by the apps where athletes today can compete virtually in running, cycling, golf etc.
New at Miele is “AI-diagnosis”, where artificial intelligence can make repairs a new, better and cheaper experience. The consumer can troubleshoot his washing machine, possibly with the assistance of a technician who follows the distance. The consumer can also be notified of upcoming errors. The new AI technology can predict e.g. a clogged filter or a need for descaling.
Miele has taken several years of oven technology development into an app – Meal Sync, so that the artificial intelligence itself analyzes the food that is put in the oven and calculates the cooking and roasting times.
“Stress-free cooking”, as it was called. The technology can do a lot: “However, you still have to chop the vegetables yourself”, as it dryly sounded in a side note from Miele director Axel Kniel.
All in all, the product news was lined up at Miele’s press conference. A microplastic filter for the washing machine was presented, a Laundry Dry Cabinet for the wrinkled clothes was presented.
As well as a new, further developed version of Miele’s cordless vacuum cleaner, and convenient new cordless Duoflex HX1 stick vacuum cleaner, was presented by Reinhard Zinkann. With its SpeedLock system*, patents pending, and a matching wall bracket, the Duoflex HX1 is astonishingly simple to operate. A further benefit is the modern design concept with six attractive colour versions. ‘This vacuum cleaner is far too attractive to be stowed away in a utility room’, is Zinkann’s verdict. The Duoflex HX1 has proven motor technology from Miele’s Euskirchen plant to thank for its suction
Further improvements on the dishwashing front
Previously, Zinkann had drawn attention to the Miele dishwasher as a ‘success story of the special kind’, with over 940,000 units sold in a single year, five wins in a row with Germany’s consumer watchdog Stiftung Warentest, the Green Product Award 2023 – and with almost all models from the current G 7000 series sporting the top ‘A’ energy efficiency class. ‘For this IFA, we have further perfected our dishwashers’, Zinkann announced. By way of an example, he cited additional programmes for thorough, energy-efficient and gentle cleaning in equal measure. In addition to this, the dishwasher baskets have undergone further development to securely accommodate reusable bottles and drinking straws for thorough cleaning. At the end of the day, it is those small things and details which often make a difference – for greater sustainability in everyday life.

Miele was able to reduce its direct and indirect CO2 emissions by 52% in 2022 compared to 2019 – while at the same time increasing its production volume. These and many other key figures are presented by the Gütersloh-based family-owned company in its sustainability update published today. This puts Miele ahead of its self-imposed target of reducing its own emissions (Scope 1) and those for energy deliveries (Scope 2) by 50% by 2030 compared to 2019. Thanks to its particularly energy-efficient appliances, Miele is also ahead of plan with 8.2% savings in the use phase of its products In addition, Miele has begun construction of a geothermal plant at its headquarters in Gütersloh. The aim of the project, for which a total of 175 special boreholes are being drilled, is the renewable generation of heat and cooling for Miele’s administrative buildings. This will save the company more than four million kilowatt hours of heat per year from fossil sources – and thus around 600 tonnes of CO2.
