Amazon’s takeover of vacuum cleaner maker iRobot is set to be blocked by the European Union’s competition watchdog,

It’s a blow to the tech giant, which was previously given the all-clear for the purchase by the UK government’s competition watchdog.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) found that its place in the UK market was “modest” and that it already faced several significant rivals.

Amazon declined to comment.

The online giant moved to buy iRobot, maker of the Roomba cleaner, in August 2022 in a takeover deal set to cost $1.7bn (£1.4bn).

Hanneck steps down as CEO of KBSA

Uwe Hanneck has stepped down from his role as chief executive of the KBB retailers association the KBSA.

Hanneck joined the KBSA as chief executive in 2015 and is said to have steered the association through a period of substantial growth, with its retail membership having increased by 74% he provided members with valuable support through lobbying the Government on important issues.

Prior to joining the KBSA, Hanneck had previously been CEO at BSH UK

Electrolux Group announced its second science-based climate target

Electrolux announced that it has set a new science-based climate target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in products and operations in support of the Paris climate agreement. The new target comes after the Group achieved its previous science-based target three years ahead of plan. “We’re very proud – says Electrolux Group CEO Jonas Samuelson – to have our second science-based climate target approved at the end of 2023 by the Science Based Targets initiative after achieving our first science-based target three years ahead of plan. We’re focused on keeping up our momentum to drive climate action throughout our value chain”. The new target aims to reduce the company’s direct and indirect emissions resulting from its own operations (scope 1 and 2) by 85% and to reduce the Group’s absolute scope 3 emissions (use of sold products, materials, transport of products and business travel) by 42% between 2021 and 2030. The target is aligned with the Paris climate agreement, which aims to keep the global temperature rise within 1.5°C this century to avoid the most severe impacts from climate change. Electrolux Group was one of the first 100 companies in the world to set an ambitious climate target approved by the Science Based Targets initiative in 2018. With the new scope 1 and 2 target, the Group will achieve a 97% emission reduction in operations by 2030 compared with 2015. “The new science-based target – explains Elena Breda, Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer at Electrolux Group – will bring us close to zero emissions in operations by 2030, despite the challenging global economic outlook and some manufacturing processes to be addressed together with our suppliers. New CEO of Copreci

Copreci appointed Javier García San Martín as the new CEO of the cooperative. Until this new role he was Operations and Production director at Ulma Forge Solutions. He worked also as manager in the mechanical design department of Ikerlan Technology Center, and held various positions at Fagor Electrodomésticos. “I am very excited – Javier García San Martín commented –, I am aware that it is a very important challenge, socially and business-wise, and I am willing to work hard so that we all feel part of this project”.

Electrolux factory in Brazil, recently celebrated 25th anniversary

Electrolux factory in Manaus, Brazil, recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. After it first started out producing window air conditioners in 1998, the factory has reached several important milestones during this time thanks to the hard work and dedication of the team. 
In 2000, the factory started manufacturing microwave ovens and last year celebrated the production of 25 million microwaves. In 2021, it also became one of the first of our plants in Latin America to achieve Zero Waste to Landfill certification, meaning that less than 1% of its waste is sent to landfill.
