Miele induction hobs Design Award

Miele induction hobs received two important design awards: the iF Design Award and the RedDot Design Award. Two hobs with an integrated extractor (TwoInOne) and a full-surface induction hob were each double winners.both powerful and quiet in operation. Their reduced design is characterised by the central air intake with a grille set in the ceramic glass screen. This feature, in particular, convinced the jury of the Red Dot Award and allows pots and pans to slide freely. The grille on the rectangular air intake blends in seamlessly with the design of the hob. Depending on the model, the grille is either completely black (KMDA 7272 Silence) or has discreet brushed stainless-steel slats (KMDA 7473 Silence).

A further recipient of the iF and the Red Dot design prize was the KM 7897-1 FL Diamond full-surface induction hob. As many as 6 pots, pans and oven dishes can be placed anywhere on the 90 cm wide hob unit and move around freely. This guarantees untold freedom during cooking. Moreover, the ceramic screen on the hob unit features a special coating: DiamondFinish is one of the hardest surfaces on the market and hence particularly scratch-resistant

BSH has been a part of ozone layer protection for 30 years

The ozone layer protects the Earth from the harmful components of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation, helping to sustain life on our planet. In the 1980s, it was observed that the ozone layer has been damaged in some parts. Thanks in part to the elimination of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in manufacturing, the ozone layer has recovered somewhat in recent decades. In 1993, exactly 30 years ago, BSH was one of the first home appliance manufacturers to launch the first CFC-free cooling appliances in Europe. Consider that a ban on products containing CFCs in the EU came into force in 2000.

In 2015, BSH was the first home appliance manufacturer that opted to use propane in heat pump dryers. The combination of the heat pump technology with the eco-friendly refrigerant propane makes these appliances especially beneficial for the environment and is recommended by the German Federal Environment Agency: “If you decide to buy an appliance that uses heat pump technology, choose one with a halogen-free refrigerant (usually propane).”good news is, that all home appliances manufactured by BSH only contain blowing agents, insulating foams, and refrigerants free of halogenated gases. “We use environmentally-friendly gases that have been technically proven for many years, e.g. hydrocarbons cyclopentane, isobutane and propane”, says Volker Korten. “As we want to make a contribution to climate protection, our refrigerants have no ozone depletion potential and only a very low global warming potential. Now, in 2023 BSH presented particularly energy-saving appliances like the Bosch Green Collection Fridge. This fridge-freezer combination is made from more sustainable, bio-based, and CO2-reduced materials. As a result, the carbon footprint resulting from the material is 33 percent or 100 kg lower than the comparable model. BSH is thus now enabling consumers to specifically reduce CO2 emissions already at the time of product purchase. For people with a high proportion of green electricity, for example, through their own solar power system, this is an additional opportunity for more climate protection

BORA New products

BORA unveiled a series of products during their Product Launch Event

The BORA Pure M with its signature vertical slider made its appearance. Alongside, lighting solutions were introduced, notably the linear pendant light – BORA Horizon, and the vertical pendant light – BORA Stars.
BORA ventured into presenting an extendable vacuum-sealing system for kitchen countertops,
The main highlight in my opinion, however, was the introduction of three freezer solutions. According to BORA, these freezers are designed with intelligent circulating air cooling to ensure optimal temperature stability. An added feature is the integrated odor filter, aimed at reducing unpleasant fridge odors.

BORA branching out into peripheral products like for instance lighting and vacuum-sealing solutions. At first glance, this might seem a departure from their original product – cooktops with integrated exhaust systems. The addition of freezer solutions now rounds off their offerings in the large kitchen appliances segment. It’s going to be fascinating to watch how this once-specialized provider positions itself brand-wise for the future. The coming months will surely demand some additional communication to clearly convey their brand positioning to the market.

ProCook launch its first small kitchen appliance range

ProCook’s debut collection of sleek and stylish kettles and toasters entered the market this month, and we think its design is one reminiscent of Dualit’s signature stainless steel style for their classic kettle and toaster – but with an even lower price tag that cannot be faulted.

If you want a high-quality option for making your daily tea and toast without breaking the bank, this range is one to watch.

The kettle, available in Stainless Steel, Gun Metal, and Black offers a generous 1.5L capacity for your everyday cuppa. The product’s modern design will complement any kitchen colour scheme and is crafted from durable stainless steel

The toaster, available in either a two or four-slice size (or both if you so desire) and matching colours, boasts an easy-to-adjust dial with seven browning settings so you can enjoy perfectly toasted bread every single time. The toaster can even reheat and defrost food, giving it a one-up for its convenience and efficiency

AWARD-WINNING SMARTHOME APP LAUNCHES AT IFA

New solution from Midea Group capable of supporting all smart home brands unveiled at IFA Midea Group topped off its return to IFA this year with the official launch of its brand new SmartHome app. The neutral app is capable of supporting the entire range of brands of the Fortune Global 500 company and has already been met with widespread acclaim including winning a Red Dot Design Award.

By opening up the app to all Midea Group smart home brands, SmartHome also opens up a whole host of new possibilities. Consumers no longer need to have a different app for each brand. SmartHome is capable of providing a one-app solution where the setup and interface are the same for each device regardless of which Midea Group brand it is.

With all Midea Group brands capable of being housed inside one single app, the opportunities for interconnectivity increase exponentially. Where before a consumer may be unable to control the temperature and humidity in their home because the air conditioner and dehumidifier belonged to different brands, now they can be set to work in tandem to provide a perfect welcome home after work. Where once a washer and dryer may work separately despite being next to each other in the kitchen, now the washer can communicate what type of load is being washed so the dryer can choose the most suitable drying program that gives consumers laundry that feels dry and fresh.

The launch of SmartHome also saw a series of other new exciting features added to the app. In the current climate, few issues are more important to consumers than energy saving and a whole new energy dashboard has been developed for the SmartHome app. This enables consumers to closely monitor their energy usage in across all the connected devices in their home and receive energy-saving tips based on usage trends.

This emphasis on environmental friendliness is also reflected in the refreshed UI of the app that boasts a green color scheme along with a cleaner layout. The UX has also been optimized to provide consumers with a seamless user journey that offers an intuitive design every step of the way including an overhauled home screen that makes it easier to control devices. All of these updates have led to SmartHome winning a Red Dot Design Award for Brands & Communication Design.

While the app has already been well received and won awards, the launch of SmartHome represents what is just the beginning of an exciting journey to a more open, more connected, and ultimately, smarter home. As the tasks that devices are capable of become more advanced and the ways they can talk to each other multiply, consumers will be able to use the SmartHome app to tap into the true potential of their home.
