Xiaomi Group’s 2023 annual report mentioned that Xiaomi’s large home appliance business continued its high growth trend, with annual revenue from large home appliances increasing by 40% year-on-year. In 2023, Xiaomi’s air-conditioning product shipments exceeded 4.4 million units, a year-on-year increase of 49%; refrigerator product shipments exceeded 2 million units, doubling year-on-year; washing machine shipments exceeded 1.3 million units, a year-on-year increase of 24%.

The refrigerator has a cross-door partition design (18 partitions) and a storage capacity of 439 liters. The refrigerator part has a capacity of 260L while the freezer has a capacity of 154L. Xiaomi unveils new ultra-thin Mijia Smart Washer Dryer 10kg

Xiaomi has launched the Mijia Smart Washer Dryer 10kg (Ultra-thin, Fully Embedded) in China. As its name suggests, the model is relatively slim at just 570 mm (~22.5 inches) wide, ideal for smaller laundry rooms or kitchens.

The Mijia Smart Washer Dryer offers 25 cycles, including an Essence Quick Wash, completed in 36 minutes. The washer has HyperOS for smart home linkage and can be controlled via the Mijia app or with Xiao AI voice commands. Detergent can be automatically dispensed based on the weight of the washing, or manually set using the color touch control panel, or remotely via the app. Plus, you can trigger OTA updates via the app. The machine has a 525 mm (~20.7 inch) drum powered by a direct drive motor with a 1:1 washing ratio and is said to remove 99.99% of bacteria. For drying, sensors control the temperature precisely and stop the cycle when the clothes are dry.

You can now buy the Xiaomi Mijia Smart Washer Dryer 10kg (Ultra-thin, Fully Embedded) in China for the discounted price of 2,299 yuan (~$325). When this pre-sale period ends on June 30th, the price is expected to increase to 2,499 yuan (~$350). It is unlikely that the model will reach regions like Europe in the near future.

Chinese firms target Korea with premium home appliances

Chinese home appliance manufactures such as Haier, Midea, and Xiaomi have  begun retailing their products on South Korea’s largest online marketplace, Coupang, and offer after-sales service (AS) through the platform. Additionally, China’s Roborock led the domestic robot vacuum cleaner market last year with its product priced over 1.6 million won. Once perceived as “cheap” and budget-friendly, Chinese home appliances are now targeting the Korean market few years ago, Chinese electronics sold in Korea mainly consisted of small appliances like humidifiers and hair dryers, or low-cost imitations of premium products. Recently, however, premium items such as robot vacuum cleaners, high-end TVs, and refrigerators have emerged in the local market. The design and quality of these products are reported to be on par with Korean and Japanese counterparts, posing a significant threat to Korean companies’ premium offerings.
