AEG bold new look

Electrolux Group premium brand AEG unveils a bold new look and first ever sound identity to deliver a modern expression for the 137-year-old German brand. The new look and sound identity launches at the same time as AEG’s best-ever Kitchen Range.

“We are proud to present a sharpened and more contemporary AEG brand,” says Tom Astin, AEG Brand and Strategy Director. “Our consultations with consumers, together with strong product innovations, have been translated into a bolder and progressive expression – through visual and sound – with a world where distinctive characters play a central role alongside a color scheme that sets AEG apart from its competitors. The evolved color palette pays homage to our beginning as a brand back in 1887 by continuing to use red, but now sees the application of darker hues to create more cut-through and distinction. This is a modern update that strongly conveys our premium position in the market.”

Initial testing of the visual identity has scored well with global consumers and has been well received by retail partners. The update, done together with growth and transformation firm Prophet, is regarded as a great vehicle to carry messaging that convey AEG’s commitment to bold design and uncompromising innovation, as acknowledged by numerous third party awards and will be applied on all manner of go to market assets – from key visuals and online content, to events and in-store environments. The new AEG Kitchen Range is the brand’s most significant full kitchen launch to date. It includes solutions in every product category including ovens, hobs, hoods, cold storage and dishwashers and is available across Europe from this September onward

China’s Home Appliance Exports Surge 14.7% in First Eight Months

The first eight months of this year, China’s home appliance exports soared by 14.7% compared to the same period last year. This growth was primarily driven by the global expansion of Chinese companies and increased external demand, although this demand may weaken in the future.Chinese home appliance manufacturers have reported that revenue from overseas markets has become a crucial source of income in the first half of this year. For instance, Haier Smart Home’s net profit surged by 16.3% to CNY 10.4 billion (USD 1.5 billion), with operating revenue increasing by 3% to CNY 135.6 billion (USD 18.8 billion). Notably, its overseas income grew by 3.7%, accounting for more than half of its total revenue, while domestic market revenue rose by only 2.3%.

Similarly, Xinbao Electrical Appliances, a leading exporter of small home appliances, experienced an 11.2% rise in net profit to CNY 442 million (USD 62.3 million) and a 22% increase in operating revenue to CNY 7.7 billion (USD 1.1 billion). Its income from overseas markets surged by over 70%.

Guangdong Bangze Chuangke, another key player, attributed its core growth to its factory in Vietnam, which has helped secure more external orders. Chairman Xu Ning mentioned that while the home appliance market remains relatively stable, the boost from external demand might weaken due to tariff risks and fluctuations in the Chinese yuan exchange rate.

Shi Yonghong, vice president of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, noted that export growth to Europe and the United States was minimal in the first half of the year. However, exports to major developing markets, especially in regions where Chinese home appliance makers have invested, such as Vietnam, India, and Mexico, continued to grow.

Matter 1.3 Update Sets Connectivity Standard for Kitchen and Laundry

With the release of the Matter 1.3 smart connectivity update, which Whirlpool Corporation has been a collaborator in developing, Matter’s footprint throughout the smart home is expanding. New major home appliances categories now supported by Matter, include microwaves, ovens, clothes dryers, vent hoods and cooktops. This update ensures consumers can find Matter-enabled appliances in every major kitchen and laundry category.

Home appliances that work with Matter will have the potential to simplify connected experiences, enable reliable connections, provide consumer choice in how to control a smart home, while maintaining privacy and security.

“Our work with Matter in the kitchen and laundry room has been focused on giving consumers the flexibility to create a smart home that seamlessly fits into their daily lives,” said Ryan Craig, Whirlpool Corporation’s director of global IoT strategy “We are excited to show the world how Matter-enabled home appliances will bring the future to your fingertips.”

Launched in October 2022, Matter is the language of the modern smart home, led by the Connectivity Standards Alliance and supported by hundreds of the world’s leading IoT and smart home companies. Products built on Matter will work with each other seamlessly and securely across platforms regardless of brand or manufacturer.

The addition of these home appliances and other device types into Matter 1.3 means that product manufacturers like Whirlpool Corporation can start to implement Matter into future designs now that the spec has been thoroughly tested and vetted.

As with all technology, it will take time for Matter-enabled devices to reach consumers’ homes – and Whirlpool Corporation looks forward to showing the world what a Matter-enabled smart home will look like.
