LG Comfort Kit, the accessory set designed to improve accessibility

LG has received 23 awards at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2024 , one of the most important annual events dedicated to industrial design. To be precise, it has received two Gold Awards , one Silver Award and three Bronze Awards, which demonstrate its commitment to creating products with a design that effectively combines aesthetic needs with the principles of inclusivity and sustainability .

Winner of the Gold award , LG Comfort Kit, the set of accessories designed to improve the accessibility of LG appliances for all people, regardless of age, gender and ability. The Comfort Kit consists of seven accessories including the Easy Handle , the set of additional handles that allow users with limited manual strength or dexterity to easily open and close appliance doors; the Easy Ball , which allows the knobs of the appliances to be operated with the palm of the hand; and the Easy Hanger , the accessory with a circular handle that allows people with reduced mobility to easily place clothes inside the LG Styler smart wardrobe. These accessories, made of recycled plastic, are easy to attach and remove and perfectly fit the design of LG products.

second  Gold award  was given to  LG gram Fold ,  the foldable notebook of the LG gram line that combines an ultra-light design and a large display with the versatility of a foldable screen. Thanks to the flexibility of the OLED technology screen, this device can transform from a 12” notebook into a 17” tablet: when used folded like a book, it is possible to use a portion of the screen as a virtual keyboard and the other portion as a screen, thanks to the automatic adjustment of the aspect ratio and orientation of images or text. Alternatively, the device can be used as a traditional notebook by adding a wireless keyboard. The matte glass finish adds a touch of elegance, while the magnesium alloy structure ensures durability and portability with a weight of only 1,250 grams.

In addition to the two  Gold Awards , LG received the  Silver Award  for  the LG CineBeam Q , the portable projector that with its compact and minimalist design fits perfectly into any space and offers maximum portability thanks to the 360° rotatable handle.

China’s Home Appliance Exports Surge 14.7% in First Eight Months

The first eight months of this year, China’s home appliance exports soared by 14.7% compared to the same period last year. This growth was primarily driven by the global expansion of Chinese companies and increased external demand, although this demand may weaken in the future.Chinese home appliance manufacturers have reported that revenue from overseas markets has become a crucial source of income in the first half of this year. For instance, Haier Smart Home’s net profit surged by 16.3% to CNY 10.4 billion (USD 1.5 billion), with operating revenue increasing by 3% to CNY 135.6 billion (USD 18.8 billion). Notably, its overseas income grew by 3.7%, accounting for more than half of its total revenue, while domestic market revenue rose by only 2.3%.

Similarly, Xinbao Electrical Appliances, a leading exporter of small home appliances, experienced an 11.2% rise in net profit to CNY 442 million (USD 62.3 million) and a 22% increase in operating revenue to CNY 7.7 billion (USD 1.1 billion). Its income from overseas markets surged by over 70%.

Guangdong Bangze Chuangke, another key player, attributed its core growth to its factory in Vietnam, which has helped secure more external orders. Chairman Xu Ning mentioned that while the home appliance market remains relatively stable, the boost from external demand might weaken due to tariff risks and fluctuations in the Chinese yuan exchange rate.

Shi Yonghong, vice president of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, noted that export growth to Europe and the United States was minimal in the first half of the year. However, exports to major developing markets, especially in regions where Chinese home appliance makers have invested, such as Vietnam, India, and Mexico, continued to grow.
