Most laundry operators quote the invoice price. The real cost only appears over years of use.
Electrolux Professional calculates that the purchase price of a professional washer or tumble dryer is about 10% of its total lifetime cost. The other 90% is water, energy and detergent. That finding underpins the new Generation 7000 range, launching with Compact Power undercounter models at ExpoDetergo in Milan.
European operators face big differences in energy prices. In late 2025, electricity cost €25.52 per 100 kWh in Ireland versus €7.48 in Finland. The European Environment Agency also estimates industry could cut water use by 30–50% with existing technology.
Generation 7000 targets the main running costs:
– A redesigned drum and automatic load sensing cut water use
– Extraction speeds up to 600G leave textiles drier; heat-pump dryers can save up to 65%
– Dosing pumps match detergent to the actual load
The range is ErgoCert-certified for better ergonomics and uses a modular drum with 60% fewer components, designed for 40,000 cycles and easier repair.
Francesco Maso, Interim President of Electrolux Professional’s Business Area Laundry, said operators must now judge machines on lifetime running costs, not just the purchase price.
