LG Electronics is looking to take artificial intelligence (AI) in the home beyond connected appliances, with caregiving identified as a potential new area of growth.
CEO Lyu Jae-cheol says the company’s Zero-Labor Home vision aims to reduce household chores by getting appliances and connected devices to work together more intelligently.
Rather than simply allowing consumers to control appliances remotely, LG wants AI to manage everyday tasks more efficiently, helping reduce the time and effort involved in running a home.
LG is developing AI-powered technology across its appliance range, including refrigerators and air purifiers.
However, Lyu stressed that automation should support consumers rather than take control away from them, with important decisions remaining in the user’s hands.
For the appliance industry, the strategy highlights how future competition could increasingly focus on connected services, AI and making everyday household management easier.
